About me

There are many reasons why someone might want to consider counselling. Sometimes it’s a question of curiosity about ourselves: who we are, and how we live our lives. Perhaps more often, the prompt might be encountering difficulties in our health, our relationships, or our work. Either way, a supportive counselling relationship can help make more sense of our lives, and find our own ways to live them more fully.

I trained as an integrative counsellor, meaning I apply a depth understanding of a number of approaches to thinking about human relationships and psychology. Primarily I am a relational therapist: I believe that we learn who we are and how we engage with others in our early relationships, and that through novel relationships - with a therapist for example - we can change unhelpful learned patterns and find a new way for ourselves.

I work with adult individuals (18+) on a 1-to-1 basis, and also with couples.  I am able to see clients in their own homes or offices if that is requested, and if an appropriate, confidential space is available for us to use. Please contact me to discuss your wishes and to see what might be possible.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling from The Minster Centre in London, and a Certificate in Supervision from Relational Change. I have extensive training and experience in working with bereavement, and am a Pregnancy and Infant Loss Accredited Practitioner. I am currently working towards an Advanced Diploma in Relationship and Psychosexual Therapy.

I have also trained with the following teachers and organisations:

Infant and Pregnancy Loss Support Worker Training - Home Hospice Association
Pregnancy and Infant Loss Practitioner Training - Foundation for Infant Loss
Awareness in Bereavement Care - at Cruse Bereavement Care
Orphan Wisdom School - with Stephen Jenkinson in Ontario, Canada
Foundation in Gestalt Psychotherapy - at Metanoia in London
How the Therapist's Own Attachment Patterns Shape Therapy - with Dr David Wallin
Working with the Neurobiological Legacy of Trauma - with Dr Janina Fisher
Living and Working with Dissociation - with Carolyn Spring and PODS
Embodied Support for Contact - with Dr Jim Kepner
Couples Therapy for Depression - with Tavistock Relationships

COSCA
Counselling & Psychotherapy in Scotland (COSCA)

COSCA is the professional body for counselling and psychotherapy in Scotland, and seeks to advance all forms of counselling and psychotherapy and the use of counselling skills by promoting best practice and through the delivery of a range of sustainable services. COSCA Counsellor Accreditation is a pathway to entry onto the UKRC. It is a requirement of all individual and organisational members of COSCA to abide by its Statement of Ethics and Code of Practice and be accountable to the Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
