About me

Experienced counsellor for all kinds of stress, anxiety & relationships issues as well as life coaching. Friendly and 'easy to talk to' ~ the counselling is forward looking, towards inspirations and insights.

ABOUT ME
BACP registered and qualified. I am a non-textbook counsellor. Each person to me is unique and each day is different. I work intuitively and integratively. I listen to you in an empathic and supportive way, not only 'just listening to' - I will interact with you and this may involve looking at things in a different way, sometimes this may mean deeper or it could mean lighter, when appropriate.
I expect our time together to evolve naturally in a way to suit you, our natural progression and your circumstances.

FIRST TIME
From day one, you will not be involved with paperwork or forms to fill in, we will simply be engaged in a conversation where you will be fully listened to, and we will discuss ways you want to move forward. I will probably take notes so that I can remember what we discussed and these are kept under lock and key, but if you do not want notes taken, then please say so.

FURTHER SESSIONS
People usually feel better than before after the first session, they often say they found it helpful, felt at ease and not judged.
We will process at your pace and as much as you wish to. Usually meeting either weekly or fortnightly. Brief therapy is usually just 4-6 sessions,
longer term therapy may be 10 or more sessions.
This will depend upon how much time you want to invest, how deep you want to go, and your own pace.
At all times you are in control of your therapy and not tied into a time contract, although it should be noted that sometimes there are difficult times through therapy and 'sticking with it' often brings results in the long term.

EMDR
I am an accredited EMDR practitioner and consultant. I have found EMDR therapy to be ideal for many situations and in particular for areas where people may become ‘stuck within’ after a sudden trauma; which may have developed into a phobia or fear or OCD or losing general confidence. For instance, I help people regain confidence for driving again after an accident, or able to face a future more confidently after abuse or a violent incident.
EMDR is a way of allowing the mind to process information quickly and fully, leading to lasting change, fuller confidence and peace of mind.

When EMDR is performed in the way that it was originally meant to be, and with updates and with the following of evidence-based protocol, it is often surprisingly life-changing!

HYPNOTHERAPY: Hypnotherapy may be used for rapidly developing self esteem and boosting confidence levels, as well as for addictions such as compulsive eating, smoking or OCD.
Quite unlike ‘stage hypnosis', it is a pleasurable way to relax and 'receive' therapy to your unconscious. It involves complete relaxation where you can just drift away and your involvement at this time, is usually just to simply listen and enjoy.

THERAPIES: as well as general counselling I am trained as an EMDR Consultant. This can be very helpful for 'stuck' areas, such as with past traumas or difficult times and in particular when it may involve flashbacks, nightmares or difficulty to concentrate or focus on the present moment. I also offer Assertiveness Training, Anger Management or CBT infused therapy for Phobias, Generalised Anxiety or Panic disorder. Hypnotherapy for addictions, anxiety, self-confidence (such as Speaking in public) and to quit smoking, Meditation classes can be found on www.awarenessmeditation.co.uk

Holistic counselling means that I am trained to use and integrate different therapies to suit you and what you have come for. We will also look at you as a whole, this may involve discussing physical health as well as emotional health and spiritual health and well being.

COUPLES COUNSELLING
You can come along with your partner for couples counselling to explore your relationship issues and how we would work through them.
Sometimes only one half of the couple is willing to explore the relationship within a counselling setting. This can still be effective because by changing ourselves, our thoughts, beliefs, and behaviours, there is often an effect on those around us and the dynamic of the relationship can become quite different.

You may also wish to meet up for help with adjusting to separation and divorce.

However many couples find new and more caring ways to move ahead and can either start to appreciate each other's differences or can have realisations of making certain changes within themselves. Sometimes we can get stuck in our own needs and forget that a partnership is about working together as partners 'for the mutual benefit of each other '

BEREAVEMENT, GRIEF, SPIRITUAL COUNSELLING
Loss of someone close to you can be an earth shattering experience. You may feel you cannot cope, feel depressed, angry with life and you may even have thoughts of suicide.
It can be very helpful at these times to share your feelings with someone you feel can be understanding, non-judgemental and a good listener.
Whatever your thoughts are, you can be assured an open mind will listen to you and those thoughts and feelings that we often cannot express with those closest to us.

If you wish to go ahead and book a first session, please email or text me on 07411 987838.

If you prefer, before booking your first session, you can start with a 10-15 mins meet up (at no charge) - You could then decide in the following few days if this is right for you. If you would like this, please state clearly that it is the 10-15 mins session you wish to book. (This can be done also by phone or Skype)
As always, there would of course be no obligation or pressure to continue.
