About me
I am a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (BABCP Accredited and qualified Counsellor) offering one to one, couples and family sessions within private practice. I have a wide range of experience working with adults, young people, families and trainee therapists. I also have expertise in child and adolescent behavioural issues within families and anxiety, the latter including panic attacks, post-traumatic stress, phobias, and excessive worrying. I have worked with a variety of other areas such as low self-esteem, obsessive compulsive disorders, relationship issues, work related stress, anger, bereavement, depression/low mood and family relationship issues.
I predominately use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as my main treatment method. CBT can help you to tackle your issues by changing the way you think and behave. It is an evidence based therapy and is most commonly used to treat anxiety and depression but is also very useful in treating other mental health problems and physical issues such as chronic pain. The course of treatment can range between 6-20 sessions with sessions often being weekly or fortnightly. Therapists and Counsellors can use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques but only those with a postgraduate diploma in CBT can call themselves a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and carry out official CBT treatment. The accreditation process through the BABCP shows those who are officially registered (www.cbtregisteruk.com) and have undertaken this process.
I also have a variety of experience working within two Doctors' surgeries (where I accept private referrals), an FE College, charities such as MIND and the NHS working with families and children.
In addition, I support CBT training programmes across the country and I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) used in the treatment of traumatic stress. This is a highly specialist treatment that is recommended by the NHS and I am one of the few Therapists within the Cambridgeshire area that can carrry out this method of treatment.
It can be a difficult decision entering into therapy which is why I offer a safe environment in which to discuss issues that are affecting your life, with the aim of making effective lasting changes for you to become your own best Therapist. Please contact me if you would like to find out more without any obligation to book an appointment. If you do decide to book an appointment, I offer a free 15 minute consultation via the telephone in order for you to decide whether the treatment process is suitable for you. If you feel you would benefit more by meeting me in person, then this can be discussed.
I am aware that a lot of people struggle to fit in therapy sessions around work and child care. Therefore I offer week nights and weekend day and evenings in order to be flexible.
