ABOUT ME:
I am an experienced self-esteem and single trauma therapist and have been working in mental health for over 15 years with various client groups. I have previously worked as a Senior CBT therapist and EMDR therapist in the NHS. I am accredited by the British Association for Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).
I help clients with a variety of problems, however my specialisation is treating single trauma, PTSD, anxiety and low self-esteem.
SELF-ESTEEM WORK:
Let me ask you this…
Do you:
- Feel like you are not good enough, unlovable, inferior, ugly, not interesting enough and so on?
- Not like what you see in the mirror?
- Have a critical voice in your head putting you down, ruminating on all the mistakes you’ve made in the past or failures you have experienced?
- Compare yourself to others and think they are somehow better, prettier, smarter etc?
- Worry what others think of you and don’t live your life the way you want for fear of being criticised?
- Find social situations anxiety provoking as you worry you might embarrass or make a fool of yourself?
- Don’t speak up at work meetings - worrying that people will laugh at your ideas or contributions and think they are silly?
- Choose wrong partners and/or friends who don’t treat you well?
And instead you’d like to:
- Feel good about yourself and confident in any situation
- Finally not allowing your insecurities to hold you back or limiting your life choices
- Enjoy social situations and meeting new people
- Letting yourself shine at work
- Have a kinder voice in your head and to be able to focus on your positives rather than shortcomings and no longer need to seek reassurance from others
- Be able to prioritise yourself without feeling guilty, and/or
- Attract suitable partners and/or surround yourself with lovely people who will treat you well and with the respect and appreciation that you deserve…
If that’s you then I can help. Self-esteem is not something that is fixed - you don’t have to live with low self-esteem for the rest of your life. Actually we have, in psychology and psychotherapy, very effective techniques that can help you improve how you feel and how your value yourself.
I have noticed that my clients who worked on self-esteem reported improvement across many areas of their lives - they were able to go for better jobs and perform better at interviews, improve relationships with close ones, reduce anxiety, become more active and do things that they always wanted to do but didn’t have courage to do so and so on.
So this therapy can be the best investment you can undertake. And l know what you’re thinking - you’re thinking that prioritising yourself and investing in yourself is selfish - but that’s not true. Imagine feeling better, happier, more confident… What would that do to your family, friends and the quality of your life in general?
When you’re at your best you can contribute more to the world, you will have more energy to spend quality time with your family and friends and you will bring hope to others that they can do that too.
I truly believe that working on self-esteem brings the best out in you.

TRAUMA AND PTDS WORK:
When working with clients who experienced trauma (and other disorders) I use CBT and EMDR combined to help alleviate trauma symptoms and I have almost 100% recovery rates for single trauma treatment, measured by a trauma specific questionnaire called Impact of Events Scale revised (IES-r).
I am passionate about helping people to heal and rebuild their lives so they can enjoy life and achieve their full potential. There is often a misconception that when trauma is experienced, you’ll have to live with it for the rest of your life but this is simply not true. How do I know? Because I helped hundreds of clients to reduce trauma symptoms such as flashbacks, nightmares, intrusive thoughts about trauma, strong negative emotions or physical sensations associated with trauma and its aftermath.
And this is what my clients have said after working with me:
'The negative childhood experiences that I thought were impenetrable, now no longer keep me stuck and I have found myself with a vastly improved quality of life and self-esteem.' - Rachel
'Without Joanna I would probably still be in a very dark place. She taught me techniques to cope when things got difficult and her gentle encouragement to find my own way to happiness was invaluable.' - Luna
'Having therapy with Joanna has fundamentally changed my life for the better. In our initial session Joanna showed deep and compassionate understanding of both my present-day problems and the past experiences that fed into these. She then effectively and efficiently supported me to work through these issues so that I could get to a place of good health and peace of mind' - Victoria
I offer one-to-one remote therapy sessions via telephone or Zoom/Skype/WhatsApp/FaceTime where in a safe and non-judgemental environment you can explore your difficulties and concerns and work towards healing.
I am here to help and my clients’ success is paramount.
