About me
You may be looking here because you are struggling with painful or difficult feelings and experiences, feeling overwhelmed or having troubles in your relationships. If so, counselling could help you. I would welcome the opportunity for us to meet and explore these or other issues you may wish to bring.
I would be interested in meeting you, hearing your story and taking the time with you to work through your feelings and experiences.
I realise that taking the step to access therapy is an important and maybe anxiety-provoking one. So if you want to know more in making this decision, I have a website that may give you a sense of the way that I work and answer some of your questions.
I am a Counsellor and UKCP registered Psychotherapist. I am also a Facilitator at The Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute and Clinical Supervisor for therapists and support workers.
Please note: Your email is important to me. If you make contact through my website form and do not receive an answer, please do email me again directly via julie_faulkner@hotmail.com. This is because some messages get caught in the spam filters designed to catch marketing emails.
Training, qualifications & experience
It feels important to be transparent about the qualifications we hold as therapists, but equally this can be confusing when finding the right person. it might only tell you a part of the picture about whether we are the right fit for each other.
Psychotherapy Qualification and current practice
I qualified in 2010 with a Masters degree in Integrative Psychotherapy with the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute in Nottingham. This has a focus on early development and impact on our current relationships, including the impact of trauma. I am interested in our relationship to our bodies and the world around us as well as with ourselves and others. I also consider how culture comes into our experiences and how our we are influenced even by previous generations in our family and cultural systems.
I specialise in longer term work, although I am also able to work shorter term in a more focused way, which works best to explore a specific current problem in living. I am able to work in person and online, although part of the assessment would be discussing what might work best for you.
I went on to work in private practice as a Psychotherapist and as a Lecturer at Staffordshire University within a number of educational and professional courses in counselling. I also attained a Postgraduate Diploma in Higher and Professional Education and a Diploma in Clinical Supervision during this time.
I am currently working as a Facilitator and Deputy Programme Leader on the MSc at The Sherwood Institute, where I have been since 2019. It is a passion of mine to help grow Psychotherapists who can bravely know and accept themselves and therefore support others to do the same.
Other experience
In my earlier career life, I worked in a number of fields, including Psychological interventions for people with learning disabilities; supported employment; welfare support and advice for young adults; personal and social education in secondary schools.
Clinical Supervision
I attained a Diploma in Clinical Supervision through the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute in 2014. I am qualified as a Recognised Training Supervisor to offer clinical supervision for trainees and qualified therapists. I am on the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) directory of approved supervisors.
Others qualifications
Honours Degree in Psychology - The University of Birmingham
This was awarded through the University of Birmingham and gave me a solid grounding in theories about the human mind, the way we develop, what motivates us, how we learn and process information.
Overview of Counselling and Psychotherapy Experience
Among the various issues I have encountered are: relationship difficulties; depression and anxiety; trauma; bullying; low self esteem; physical and sexual abuse; self harm; bereavement and loss and ageing. I am open to working with whatever issues you may bring, alongside both of us discovering all that we can know about who you are as a person.
Treating your information with care
I take the handling of your personal information seriously, in line with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
