About me

I specialise in trauma therapy for issues such as PTSD from road accidents, surgical trauma, assault, abuse or military combat. Anxiety, depression, insomnia, relationship difficulties or struggling to cope can also be symptoms of less obvious unresolved trauma such as bullying, childhood neglect or violence.

EMDR is recommended by NICE and the World Health Organisation as an effective therapy for dealing with trauma but it is also a useful method for increasing self esteem and overcoming performance anxiety. Combined with Mindfulness and cognitive techniques I offer a therapy that is flexible and tailored to fit in with your individual therapeutic needs. I aim to provide a supportive environment in which to explore the issues that are troubling you and our initial session gives you an opportunity to ask any questions and for us to consider the most practical and fruitful way forward.  I am experienced in both short-term focussed therapy and longer term work. I approach my work with clarity, sensitivity and warmth, helping you to explore whatever aspect of your life you may wish to understand, take control of, or improve.

Many of us feel low at some stage and life seems to have a habit of throwing up changes and challenges that we have to deal with. Sometimes talking to friends and family can offer the support we need, but at other difficult times, it may be more helpful to talk with a professionally-trained and experienced counsellor with whom you can explore your feelings in a safe, secure and empathic space.

My clients come from all walks of life and bring varying concerns such as addiction, anxiety, bereavement, depression, post-traumatic or work-related stress, problems with relationships or sexuality. Some have suicidal thoughts, some are struggling with separation or divorce, while others need to talk about spiritual concerns and a life that has lost its direction.

I am committed to my own ongoing professional and personal development, through continuing therapeutic work and study. My work is fully supervised and insured and I adhere to the BACP Code of Ethics.

As an Accredited EMDR Consultant I offer EMDR supervision for therapists at any stage of their training, from Part 1 to working towards practitioner and consultant accreditation.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
