About me
I am a qualified, experienced Adult Psychotherapist and Counsellor working in Balham in South West London. I provide regular long-term counselling, therapy and time limited counselling to adults in a safe and non judgemental setting. This is a place where we can think together about any difficulties you may be experiencing including:
- Depression
- Anxiety and Stress
- Relationship difficulties including divorce and domestic violence
- Low self esteem and confidence
- Career difficulties, and work related issues such as bullying
- Loss, bereavement and serious illness e.g cancer / HIV
- Trauma including violent crime and rape
- Infertility, Donor Conception, Postnatal Depression, Termination.
- Sexual issues, Sexuality and Identity
- Abuse
I work from a psychodynamic perspective, based on the principle that problems and distress in the present may be related to early experiences. Whether your problems are identifiable, or confusing, counselling can help you deal with emotions that are difficult to understand, giving you fresh insights into your life and work in order to find the best way forward.
Counselling is a collaborative process - a safe and confidential space to explore and talk openly without discrimination or judgement. Taking the first steps to contact a counsellor can be difficult, but an initial consultation can help you address any concerns you may have.
All enquiries are strictly confidential and you do not need a GP referral to make an appointment. To set up an initial consultation or to discuss any questions or concerns you may have please contact me by telephone or e-mail on 07973 524 094 0r tamsinmitchell@counselling-southlondon.co.uk
Training, qualifications & experience
I completed my training as a counsellor at WPF Therapy, one of the leading training institutions in the UK with a reputation for clinical and academic excellence. It is accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).
I have over 15 years professional experience as a qualified Psychotherapist. I hold a WPF Advanced Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Studies from Roehampton University. This is a four year training which includes substantial clinical experience and personal psychoanalytical therapy as well as theoretical understanding and academic attainment.
I am an accredited member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy ( UKCP ), a professional member of the Foundation for Psychotherapy and Counselling (FPC) and of British Infertility Counselling Association ( BICA ). All these organisations have strict ethical codes, and professional standards of confidentility and practice to which I subscribe.
I see clients in private practice with a wide variety of problems. I have also worked as a fertility counsellor in a leading London Fertility Clinic. I have presented and facilitated workshops on donor conception and fertility related issues and I have additional specialist experience in working with victims of crime.

school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
