About me

Hello I'm Barbara, a very experienced counsellor based in Exeter , working with my clients in person and online. 


My effective counselling approach can be of help with a wide range of issues and life events e.g. anxiety, depression, social anxiety, low self esteem, low confidence, relationships , bullying , miscarriage, menopause , neuro diversity and family issues. I have extensive experience of and a special interest in;  low confidence and self esteem, stress management,   University student issues, bereavement/ loss, and womens' physical, emotional and psychological health and wellbeing.

  • Exploring your feelings and experiences in a one to one, non judgmental counselling relationship can provide you with valuable support , new insights and perspectives and personal growth. Counselling can also help you find new ways to deal with the issues that are currently challenging your life, mental health and wellbeing.
  • I work with all adults over 18.

My experience:

  • I’m a very experienced counsellor . A registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapists (BACP), and I work to the code of ethics set down by the BACP ethical framework.
  • I’m also a qualified and experienced supervisor offering supervision to qualified and trainee counsellors, and those working in job roles where it’s helpful for their wellbeing to have a safe caring space to explore the work and its impact on them.

Professional background:

  • Prior to becoming a counsellor, I worked as a freelance learning and development consultant , coach and mentor, specialising in management development, personal development, womens' development and stress management.
  • I've also had senior roles in the recruitment sector and have substantial experience of employability.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

The fee for a 30 minute informal consultation is £20
Thereafter the fees are £60 per 50 minute session

Some concessions are available,  e.g. students, seniors and low waged,  so please just ask and I'll do my best to help.


£60 per 60 minute session. £45 per 60 minute session for trainee counsellors and those in the first 6 months of private practice

All fees are payable  by online banking, on or before the date of each appointment.
