About me

Do you feel you would like to be heard, listened to, acknowledged and understood? Do you need help with difficult feelings or a way to lighten the burdens or problems you are carrying? I provide a full range of counselling and psychotherapy services in and around Torbay and the surrounding areas, including Exeter. I offer a friendly, relaxed and professional approach, and have worked with clients with varying issues for over 25 years.  I also provide an online counselling service.

I am qualified as an integrative counsellor.  This means I am able to utilise various  methods of therapy and therefore can call upon the most appropriate and effective for each and every client who attends my counselling practice.

In therapy together, we’ll create a relationship to help you discover and change patterns of feeling, thinking, and relating that may be causing you to feel stuck, confused, or overwhelmed. In a safe and trusting environment, our conversations will unfold in the space and time you need to get to know yourself better and become free to follow your life goals and desires. I will support you as fully as possible in your search to find how best to move forward, in the areas of your life you choose to explore.

It would be a privilege to meet with you for a consultation to explore whether counselling with me feels right for you. I welcome your enquiry by phone or email. Counselling can make a significant positive change to your life.

I have been counselling as a qualified counsellor, psychotherapist and hypnotherapist for a period of 25 years. I have been awarded a Diploma in Advanced Counselling, and I've completed four years of Clinical Training as a Psychotherapist. I have also trained and become qualified as a Master Practitioner of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP). In addition I am qualified in Hypnotherapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and EMDR.

I am based in the Torbay area, and practice as a Counsellor, Psychotherapist and supervisor working with individuals, couples and families. I also currently hold a Diploma in Clinical Supervision, and supervise trainees and also counsellors working in GP settings and private practice.

I have a confidential private practice (with disabled access) based in Preston, Paignton, and I am currently contracted by Torbay Social Services, Devon and Cornwall Police and the NHS as a Psychotherapist. I have gained much valuable experience, and currently also work with leading Employee Assistance programmes and Insurance providers.

I hold an Enhanced CRB check to ensure your protection, and I undertake Continuing Professional Development and regular Clinical Supervision to make certain that you will receive the best and latest treatment in safety. I adhere to the code of ethics of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

I have recently written a book on the subject of Panic attacks and this work is in the process of being published.

As well as face to face sessions, I also offer online counselling. For more information please contact me.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
