Jayne Cookson BA (hons) MBACP
This may be the start of your new journey, and I understand that looking to find a counsellor may be daunting. You may have questions like, will they be able to help me, what will it be like?
I offer you a free 30 minute consultation to enable you to see if I am the right person for you to work with as I understand it is important that you feel comfortable and safe in order to begin your therapy.
My aim is to help you achieve what you need to feel happier in your life. In your session you will have the time to focus on yourself and feel really listened to and understood. As we go through our lives we may stay in old patterns and ways that may lead to us feeling unhappy with life and ourselves. I will help you work through things that may be keeping you stuck and find new ways to move forward, helping you to be more the way you want to be.
I have been a therapist since 2005 and have much experience working with clients with anxiety, low self esteem, depression, feeling sad, panic disorder, OCD, family issues, relationship problems, trauma, domestic abuse and substance abuse.
In common with a lot of therapists, my journey began when I was in therapy myself. Through my relationship with my own therapist, I realised how the right support really helped me unravel what was going on in my life and to help me make different choices which were far more healthy for me and make me a happier person.
Amongst other issues I see clients with are: bi polar or manic depression, affairs and betrayals, loss, separation and divorce, postnatal depression, bereavement, addictions, abuse, disability, autism.
I have a peaceful and discreet environment to work with you in and help you with what you need in your sessions, either short or long term using a variety of approaches. Depending on your needs, sessions will always be tailored to suit you. I can also see you via Skype if that is more convenient.
My past work has included working within the Youth Offending Team and Probation Services managing teams of volunteer mentors. Family work within Social services working with adults, vulnerable adults and children. Work with women and children who have experienced domestic abuse.
I currently also do some work in a specialist school and college for physically and learning disabled students. I also have extensive experience providing counselling to employees in the work place.
I abide to the BACP code of ethics and have regular supervision to ensure I work efficiently and with respect with my clients.
I have a BACP approved 1st class honours degree (B.A.hons) in Humanistic Counselling using Transactional Analysis, a play therapy certificate, and training in Rewind trauma, autism and disability, mindfulness, couples counselling, and various counselling skills using art and sand tray work. I have specialist areas in trauma and domestic abuse and am currently training in Embodied psychotherapy.
My belief is we all have the potential to make changes throughout our lives given the right tools and environment.
If you feel now is the time to try a new approach please do get in touch via email or phone to discuss your situation or make an initial free appointment.
I hold a current enhanced Criminal Records Bureau check

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
