Recovering from addiction?

If this is you, at some point in a journey of recovery from an addiction that has possibly dominated and controlled your life for a long time, then make this day count. Each day is a new beginning with countless possibilities and your main challenge is just to get through each day.

Perhaps you have spent some time in a treatment centre going through detox and learning some skills to help yourself in your new life? If this is so, then maybe life is seeming daunting now that you are on your own without immediate support? Perhaps you are looking around for some help because you are feeling helpless and hopeless in relation to drugs, alcohol, sex, gambling, shopping, food, relationships, work... or something else?

I imagine you may easily doubt yourself if you are looking for some help? Let’s face it, you probably have more evidence of getting it “wrong” than “right,” so why on earth would you believe in yourself? Is this resonating with you at all? If so, I hope you will read on and maybe find a little inspiration or motivation for this day in your life...

However desperate, depressed, miserable, fed up, lonely, insecure, unsure, fragile, angry, rejected, wronged, misunderstood or empty that you feel right now, all is not lost. One very important thing that continues to drive many counsellors' interest and passion in therapeutic work with people, after many years in the field, is their innate capacity to learn. It seems to me that when the time is right, a person will begin to look for help because of an underlying motivation for change and even though fear and doubt may be alongside, capacity to learn and belief in possibility are often leading the way.

Perhaps you found your way onto this website today because you are ready to start learning some new ways? Perhaps this may also mean that you are ready to let go of some of the old?

Make today count by taking some positive action - try doing one nice thing for yourself today.
