Supervision details

I have 20 years of experience counselling and mentoring people in a range of settings. I love what I do and I deeply appreciate being able to facilitate the learning and development of others, whether as clients or supervisees. It's only now with this wealth of experience that I am offering supervision.  An effective supervisor will likely have experienced similar situations you may encounter, and will support you to explore these in a way that is helpful to you.

I have worked alongside young people and I have extensive experience of working with students. I currently practice entirely online and specialise in working alongside autistic adults of all ages. I have been trained to work in a Person Centred Way. I embody attitudes of genuineness, acceptance and empathy. I'm also very interested in other approaches and the different insights they can offer.

My way of being is direct, compassionate and warm. I endeavour to support people to feel understood on their own terms and to helpfully and meaningfully reflect on their work in order to develop well being, confidence and ethical practice.

I regard autism as a different way of being and in no sense deficient. I actively support autistic clients and supervisees to understand and accept themselves and to lessen the struggle to fulfil unhelpful expectations they have introjected in order to cope socially. I offer a different kind of relationship, one where the mask can hopefully begin to drop and a more authentic dialogue and enquiry can emerge.

If you are yourself autistic or you work with autistic individuals my way of being and relating may suit you.

My learning and development is active and ongoing and supported by meditation practice and a deep interest in Buddhist Philosophy and Psychology. I am accepting of individuals from all walks of life and I seek to avoid taking and expressing firm positions or views. I support supervisees to reflect on their own experience and values and how this informs the work, supports ethical practice and mitigates harm. I take my own self care seriously and actively support supervisees to nurture this for themselves.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
