Supervision details
I offer supervision in Intensive Short Term Dynamic Therapy to anyone interested in using the uniquely helpful tools of ISTDP in their practice.
This includes precise and accurate monitoring of anxiety. Sympathetic and parasympathetic activation can be tracked and understood moment to moment in the session. We can then consider appropriate interventions based upon this that will help you work at your clients capacity without exceeding it.
ISTDP also offers a different way to work with defences - I can help you to make a strong alliance with your client which will allow you to invite them to respond to you and themselves in a more helpful/ healthful way. This is in contrast to approaches which simply making intellectual interpretations of defences and wait for clients to change.
Another strength of ISDTP is the tools for supporting and connecting with a client who is experiencing deep emotions in the room with you. Importantly this includes a framework for working with anger, as well as sadness, guilt and loving feelings.
A really powerful aspect of therapy is the potential to work 'in the moment' with whatever is going on in the here and now between the client and yourself. My supervision can help you to see moments where the work can or needs to be focussed on the transference and how you might do this.
I work with ISTDP trainees, ISDTP qualified therapist as well as any therapist who is interested in integrating the theory and techniques from this approach in their work.
Supervisions can be regular or one off sessions to help you consider how you are working with a difficult client or where the work feels stuck.
Supervisees are encouraged to bring video recordings of sessions to supervision to enable precise and accurate supervision. I can help you with how to do this, including getting consent from your client.
Where using video recrdings isn't possible I will often use role plays to get an understanding of your client and zoom in on possible interventions.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
