Supervision details

I can offer 'one off' supervision, or peer supervision to a qualified counsellor, and am also interested in working with trainee counsellors . My approach is relational, humanistic, and integrative. My style is to be supportive, but I will also gently challenge you to support your professional growth and insights, whilst also ensuring  clients' well-being. I am an avid reader in the field of counselling and love doing new courses-most recently in REWIND to help process trauma, creative approaches and somatic healing.

I run a successful, busy, full-time practice in York helping clients with a range of presentations. Prior to this, I worked for two different counselling charities as a volunteer counsellor over a 5 year period, and also worked for Better Help as an online therapist for a short time.

My counselling qualifications range from a Diploma in Counselling & Psychotherapy, to a Post Grad Certificate in Pluralistic Counselling, to a Certificate in Youth Counselling. Therapy qualifications aside, I have two Masters -one in Educational Leadership, and one in Literature. Therefore, I can offer coaching support and also use story, narrative and metaphor work to help support clients.

Prior to being a therapist, I taught in secondary schools for over 20 years and therefore am an experienced mentor, ask the right questions, explain concepts clearly, and have studied many approaches to effective learning, and reflection to support best practice, and client and therapist growth.

Should you be interested in working with me, I can offer you a free 15 min phone consultation to establish whether or not we would be a good fit and for you to share what you need from supervision.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
