Supervision details

SW18 and how we can work together

Hello, I'm Alex, supervisor and therapist in private practice in Wandsworth, London SW18. I work in person and online, offering supervision, and I also work as a therapist with trainee therapists, individuals and couples; I’ve worked with families too. Supervision is usually 90 minutes every month or 45 minutes once a fortnight.

My Background and Therapy Training

After my first MA in Modern Languages, I went on to publishing then teaching. From 2014 I trained at Relate, where I received my MA in relationship therapy; my dissertation was on humour in therapy. Subsequently, I became BACP accredited. Now I've worked privately for 8 years with student therapists, also adult individuals, couples and families.

"Relationship therapy" covers a huge spectrum of issues: anxiety, trauma, parenting, retirement - life! My Relate MA was grounded in psychodynamic and systemic therapies, but I work with a range of modalities, from CBT to solution-focused therapy, Mindfulness to narrative therapy and lots in between, so I’m integrative.

Supervision Training

I've trained with Joan Wilmot and Robin Shohet in core supervision and the seven-eyed model.

I see supervision as a collaboration between us - a sharing of your workload. We use both our relationship and yours with your clients to illuminate your work, always within the safety of your professional body's guidelines and the wider systemic context. I'm very hot on self-care: without looking after ourselves, we can't begin to be of use to our clients.

I look forward to hearing from you, to finding out about your practice and what you want from supervision.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
