Supervision details

My approach to supervision is relational, collaborative and developmental. I believe good supervision should provide both support and appropriate challenge, creating a space where you can talk openly about your work without feeling that you need to have all the answers.

I am particularly interested in what happens within relationships. As an attachment-based practitioner, I encourage curiosity about the relationship between counsellor and client, including patterns that may emerge within the therapeutic work and the thoughts, feelings or responses that a client may evoke in us as practitioners.

My supervision is informed by the Seven-Eyed Model, which enables us to look at client work from a number of perspectives, including the client's experience, the interventions being used, the therapeutic relationship, the counsellor's own process and what may be happening within the supervisory relationship. I also draw upon the Integrated Developmental Model (IDM), recognising that our needs within supervision can change as our experience, confidence and professional identity develop.

Alongside exploring client work, I see supervision as a place to consider ethical practice, boundaries, safeguarding, professional development, workload and the impact that counselling work can have on us personally.

Before becoming a counsellor, I worked as a learning disability nurse, and I have since gained over six years' experience within counselling services, including managing a counselling agency. These experiences have given me an understanding of working with complexity, supporting practitioners and balancing the needs of clients, counsellors and organisations.

My own therapeutic practice is integrative and attachment-based, and I have experience supporting clients with a range of emotional and relational difficulties, including anxiety, low self-esteem, trauma, neurodivergence and relationship and attachment difficulties.

I am currently undertaking my Clinical Supervision training and receive supervision for my supervisory practice. I welcome enquiries from qualified counsellors and, where appropriate to my training and experience, counselling students seeking a supportive and reflective supervisory relationship.

For me, supervision is not simply about reviewing client work. It is about creating a relationship where you can develop your confidence, deepen your understanding of yourself as a practitioner and continue to grow professionally while keeping the well-being and safety of your clients at the centre of the work.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
