Supervision for Counsellors
I offer relational, reflective and collaborative supervision for counsellors and counselling students, providing a space to step back from the demands of therapeutic work and think more deeply about what is happening for you, your clients and within the therapeutic relationship.
My approach is grounded in person-centred and humanistic values, alongside an integrative and flexible way of working. I believe there is no one-size-fits-all approach to either counselling or supervision. We each bring our own experiences, values, assumptions and emotional responses to our work, and I see developing awareness of these as an important part of becoming a confident and thoughtful practitioner.
I offer supervision that is warm, supportive and appropriately challenging. I want you to feel able to bring the things that don't feel neat or straightforward: uncertainty, stuckness, difficult client relationships, emotional responses, ethical dilemmas, mistakes and questions about your practice. At the same time, I won't simply tell you that everything is fine. Where constructive challenge may deepen your thinking or benefit your client, I will offer it with honesty, curiosity and respect.
I see supervision as restorative, formative and accountable. It is a place to process the emotional impact of the work, develop your skills and confidence, and think carefully about ethical and professional responsibilities. I am interested not only in what happened in a session, but in what you noticed, what you felt, what you assumed and what was happening between you and your client.
My wider professional background includes community arts, Samaritans, supporting survivors of domestic and sexual abuse, specialist mentoring for university students with ADHD, autism and mental health difficulties, and private practice. These experiences have strengthened my belief in the importance of understanding people within their wider context, including culture, disability, inequality, relationships and social pressures.
I hope you will experience me as grounded, open, curious and honest. My aim is not to be the supervisor with all the answers, but to help you develop your own reflective capacity, professional judgement and confidence.
I offer one-to-one supervision from my counselling room in Hayle, although other arrangements, including online sessions or community settings, can be considered. My fee for qualified counsellors is £50 for a 55-minute session. For counselling students I offer a reduced fee of £25 for a 45-minute session or £40 for a 90-minute session, with fees reviewed after graduation. Ultimately, I hope supervision with me is a place where people feel safe enough to think honestly, challenged enough to keep growing, and supported enough to do their best work.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
