Supervision details
I see supervision as a place to pause, think and reflect on the work together. It is more than simply bringing cases for discussion; for me, it is an opportunity to explore what is happening for the client, for the therapist and within the therapeutic relationship.
I am an integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor and supervisor, offering supervision to both trainee and qualified counsellors and psychotherapists. I offer sessions in person and online.
My approach is grounded in person-centred, humanistic, psychodynamic and existential thinking. I value creating a warm, trusting and open relationship where supervisees feel able to bring the work that feels difficult, uncertain or challenging, as well as the work that feels rewarding.
I believe good supervision should provide both support and challenge. I will listen carefully and thoughtfully, while also encouraging you to question your assumptions, consider different perspectives and develop your own clinical thinking and professional judgement. Rather than simply providing answers, I hope to help you become increasingly confident in finding your own.
I am particularly interested in the therapeutic relationship and in exploring what may be happening between therapist and client. Sometimes our own responses, feelings and intuitions can offer valuable information about the work, and supervision can provide a safe place to explore these without judgement.
Alongside clinical reflection, I place importance on ethical practice, safeguarding, risk assessment, boundaries, contracting and the responsibilities that come with being a counsellor or psychotherapist. I also believe there needs to be space to consider you as the therapist – how the work affects you, what you find difficult, and how your own experiences and responses may influence your practice.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
