About me
I am a CBT and EMDR therapist, supporting people with depression and anxiety disorders such as generalised anxiety, PTSD, OCD and social phobia. I am accredited by the BABCP (British Association for Cognitive and Behavioural Psychotherapies), the lead organisation for CBT in the UK and Ireland. See below for further information about CBT and EMDR.
If we work together, firstly we will explore what difficulties you are wanting help with and what your goals are for therapy. Then, when we have an understanding of your difficulties, I will help you work towards those goals.
Both CBT and EMDR are relatively brief therapies and a course of treatment with me is generally between 8 - 14 sessions. We will discuss how many sessions to have.
I also offer CBT workshops on various topics, and CBT supervision for trainee or qualified CBT Therapists.

Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The BABCP is the lead organisation for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in the UK. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the practice, theory or development of CBT. BABCP also provides accreditation for CBT therapists. BABCP accredited members adhere to the Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics in the Practice of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies, and are willing to be scrutinised in this adherence as required.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information
The central principle of CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) is that any situation affects our thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and physical aspects; these four areas then interact with each other, and this can lead us to fall into unhelpful cycles. Often, we get out of these cycles ourselves, but sometimes, when the cycle is very strong, it can be extremely difficult to break the unhelpful cycle without the help of a therapist.
EMDR (Eye-movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) works on the basis that traumatic events we experience can lead to difficult memories becoming "stuck" in our minds and not being processed in the way our mind normally processes things. This can then lead, for example, to being stuck in a state of anxiety and to difficulties in many areas of our life. EMDR helps to "unstick" these memories and enable our mind to process things in a more helpful way.

If you are interested in having therapy with me, the first step would be for us to have a brief telephone conversation (with no charge), and then, if relevant, we can book an initial session.
