About us

Wasilah Counselling

-A means to healing, clarity and growth-

The word Wasilah means a way, or something through which a person can reach what they are seeking.

This is what I hope to offer you through counselling - a space to explore what you are experiencing and what you would like to be different. You may want to understand why you feel the way you do, break patterns that no longer serve you, improve your relationships, or find a way to cope when life feels overwhelming.

Counselling can be a means towards that change.

Training, qualifications & experience

My name is Ayesha. I hold a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

My approach

At Wasilah Counselling, my approach is person-centred at its core, meaning that I start with you: your experiences, your needs and what feels important to you.

I draw on integrative approaches and therapeutic tools where these are appropriate and helpful. This may include CBT-informed tools to support you to understand patterns of thinking, manage difficult emotions and develop practical ways of coping.

I don't believe that one approach works for everyone. I adapt my sessions to you, your individual needs and what you feel comfortable with.

What can I help with?

I have a particular interest in supporting adults experiencing depression; feeling overwhelmed by what they are carrying, don't know exactly what they need, or don't have the right words to begin.

You may be trying to keep going, look after others or manage everyday life, while privately feeling anxious, low, disconnected, stuck or unsure of why you feel the way you do.

You may have become used to putting your own feelings aside, trying to stay strong or simply getting through each day.

You don't have to have everything figured out before coming to counselling. We can take time to explore what you're experiencing and start with where you are.

You might also be struggling with:

  • anxiety or feeling overwhelmed
  • low confidence or self-esteem
  • difficult relationships or family dynamics
  • feeling stuck or disconnected from yourself
  • the effects of difficult childhood experiences
  • changes or transitions in your life

My approach is trauma-informed. I aim to create a sense of safety, trust and choice, while allowing you to work at a pace that feels manageable.

My experience of working with neurodivergent clients means I can offer support with an understanding of the ways neurodivergence can shape emotional wellbeing, relationships and everyday experiences.

Children & young people

I also offer support for children and young people aged 6 years and over. I have over 10 years' experience working with children and young people in education, including many years supporting children with special educational needs, including autism and ADHD.

I offer gentle, nurturing counselling for children and young people experiencing difficulties such as anxiety, low mood, low self-esteem, separation anxiety and the emotional impact of challenging experiences.

Alongside talking, I may use creative, sensory and play-based approaches to help children feel comfortable, build trust and express themselves in ways that feel natural to them.

Cultural and faith-sensitive support

Your beliefs, values, culture and life experiences can all shape how you understand yourself and the challenges you face. I aim to create a space where these parts of who you are can be explored without judgement.

For Muslim clients, I can draw on my background in Alimiyyah studies and my ongoing training in Islamic Psychology to incorporate relevant Islamic perspectives into our work, where this is something you would find helpful.

I am also fluent in Urdu and can offer counselling in Urdu where appropriate.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

We have verified that at least one professional at this organisation is registered with the relevant professional body.
