About me

Feeling genuinely heard and understood can be the starting point for meaningful change. I offer a safe space to explore anxiety, stress, loss, trauma, identity, relationship issues and life changes.

I believe you are the expert in your own life, so our work together is collaborative, gentle and shaped around your needs. Drawing on psychology and neuroscience, I can help you understand how your mind and body respond to stress and difficult experiences, supporting you to feel more grounded, gain clarity and move forward with greater confidence.

I work in a trauma-informed, neuro-affirmative way, adapting our work to your needs and welcoming autistic and ADHD clients. I recognise the value of nature and creativity, offering opportunities to incorporate these into our work together. Where appropriate, this might include visual art within sessions or walk-and-talk outdoor sessions, helping us find ways of working that feel natural and meaningful to you.

As a former teacher and school leader, I understand the emotional demands of leadership and caring professions, including the pressures that can lead to stress, overwhelm and burnout. I bring this experience to my counselling practice with empathy and without judgement, supporting you to explore what is happening and to better understand your needs.

Perhaps you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, stuck or unsure of what you need? Reaching out for support can be a difficult first step, but you don’t have to navigate things alone. I offer a warm, compassionate space where you can feel heard without judgement, make sense of what you’re experiencing and begin to find a way forward. I’d be glad to hear from you.

Sessions are available online, face-to-face in a private therapeutic space in Wadebridge, or as outdoor walk-and-talk counselling sessions within the beautiful North Cornwall landscape.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a BACP-accredited Level 5 Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling & Therapy, alongside a BSc (Hons) in Psychology. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and a Graduate Member of the British Psychological Society (BPS).

Alongside my counselling training, I have over 20 years’ experience in education as a teacher and school leader, holding a PGCE and National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH). This included working as the head of a trauma-informed school, where I developed a strong understanding of the impact that adversity and trauma can have on emotional wellbeing, relationships, behaviour and learning.

Following my psychology degree, my early professional experience focused on therapeutic work with children and young people. This, together with my subsequent training and experience, has given me a particular understanding of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and trauma, and how past experiences can shape the way we think, feel and relate to ourselves and others. I am mindful that everyone responds to their experiences differently and adapt my practice accordingly.

I am also specifically trained to support people affected by domestic abuse and have two years’ experience working with WAVES Domestic Abuse Counselling Service. I understand the complex impact that abuse can have, and I offer a compassionate, non-judgemental space in which clients can begin to make sense of their experiences and explore what they need.

In addition to my professional qualifications, I hold certifications in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills, Mental Health First Aid and Safeguarding.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
