About me
I'm Trevor Gray, a psychotherapist and counsellor for performers - actors, dancers, musicians, singers, and people working in theatre, TV and film - and for athletes, from professional footballers to Olympic competitors and young people in academies.
Before I trained, I spent ten years signed to Sony Records as a recording artist and composer, with top 10 records around the world and years of touring. Since then I've coached in a Premier League academy, worked as a behavioural therapist at The BRIT School, and been Mental Wellbeing Consultant to Liverpool FC Women, where I co-wrote the club's mental health strategy. I've been in private practice for over twelve years.
That history matters for one reason only: you won't have to explain the context first.
When you talk about the run-up to an audition, the week after a bad result, an injury that won't settle, the silence when the phone stops ringing, or what it's like to be released - I already know the shape of it. We can get straight to what's underneath.
People come to me with performance anxiety and stage fright, with the stretch between a public self and a private one, with the loss of identity that follows retirement or a career that quietly stops, with the pressure of being judged in public, with perfectionism, and with what touring, filming or a season away does to relationships and to sleep. I also work with anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, addiction, self-esteem and bereavement in the ordinary way - the performing is often the setting, not the problem.
I work online, which means I can see you wherever you are, including on tour, on location or abroad, and sessions are held on a secure clinical platform. I also see people in person by arrangement - on set, on tour, or somewhere away from the training ground if that matters.
I offer a free 30 minute call first, with no obligation. You tell me what's going on and I'll tell you honestly whether I'm the right person. If I'm not, I'll point you towards someone who is.
Some of my clients are names you'd know. Some aren't. Some have nothing to do with performing at all, and that's fine too.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
I work with members of Equity, Spotlight and the Musicians' Union, who receive £10 off one-to-one sessions.
I also work with the families around a performer - particularly parents of young people in academies and stage schools - who often carry a great deal on their own.
Alongside this practice, I run 'Therapy for Footballers' (https://www.therapyforfootballers.com), which offers confidential support to current and former professional players, independent of their club.
