About me

Feeling sad? Worried? Hurt? Confused? Need to talk to someone you can trust?

I am a professionally trained and qualified counsellor. I offer a safe place where you can be truly heard - not judged or told what to do - and I work in whatever way is best for you and most appropriate to the circumstances that you are dealing with.

Whatever you are facing, you don't have to do it alone.

Finding the right counsellor can often feel rather overwhelming. This is why I offer an initial free session, allowing you to get a sense of whether I would be the person you would like to work with.

I can offer daytime and evening appointments of one hour.  Sessions can be face-to-face or online.

I also offer supervision for practicing counsellors and enjoy working with counselling students.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have been involved in the field of counselling and psychology for many years. My original training was in New Zealand over 25 years ago.  I have also completed UK qualifications in counselling (a CPCAB level 4 Diploma), a Supervision qualification, and I am trauma-informed, and I have degrees in Psychology and Social Science.

Alongside my work with adults, I have also provided counselling for teenagers in a secondary school environment for over 10 years and spent several years volunteering for a telephone helpline that provided counselling for teenagers.

As a result of my own difficult journey with food, weight and body image, I have a real passion for helping people who are struggling in similar areas.

I was a counselling tutor for many years and am passionate about working with people embarking on their journey into the profession. I also offer supervision and particularly enjoy working with newly qualified counsellors.

I am a registered member with the BACP Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP).

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
