About us

Professional Counselling in Watford Specialising in Anxiety, Depression, Trauma & Bereavement

You might be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, low, or affected by experiences that still feel close and painful. You may be coping with trauma, navigating a difficult relationship, or living with the impact of bereavement. Perhaps you’re not even sure how to describe what’s wrong, you just know something doesn’t feel right.

Reaching out for counselling can feel like a big step. You might wonder whether your struggles are “serious enough” or whether talking will really help. If you’re here, something in you is looking for support, and that matters.

At The Counselling Practice, we offer you a calm, confidential and supportive space in Watford town centre where you can talk openly and feel genuinely heard. We are a team of qualified and experienced counsellors, and our focus is on understanding your experience and working alongside you towards meaningful change.

We specialise in supporting you with:

Anxiety and stress

Depression and low mood

Trauma (including relational and developmental trauma)

Bereavement and loss

We also work with addiction recovery, weight and body image concerns, food relationship difficulties, relationship and couples counselling, and counselling for children and young people.

How We Work

We understand that your experiences are unique. We will take time to understand what has brought you to counselling and what you hope might feel different. Our therapists use integrative, evidence-based approaches and tailor the work to suit you.

Above all, we prioritise building a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship, because real change happens when you feel understood, accepted and supported.

We will move at a pace that feels manageable for you.

All therapists at The Counselling Practice are registered members of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and follow the BACP Ethical Framework. You can expect counselling that is ethical, confidential and professionally delivered.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

We have verified that at least one professional at this organisation is registered with the relevant professional body.
