About me
Introduction
I am an accredited counsellor with over fifteen years experience ; I trained first with children and adolescents and then adults having worked particularly with younger adults 18-30 over the last seven years.
It might be useful to understand , how I work and the training that informs my practice. I trained originally as a psychodynamic therapist in which understanding the power of our unconscious over our thoughts, feelings and behaviour is key. I have undergone further training in bereavement and loss more recently, Our behaviour and feelings as adults (including psychological problems) are often rooted in our childhood experiences. Events in our childhood have a powerful influence on development and the adults adult lives, shaping our personality. It can be the case that experiences we have had, remain unprocessed and affect how we interact, or what we expect from others and how we approach life.
Life can often be challenging and complex and the consequences can result in emotional and psychological difficulties. We are wired for relationship and often it is the relationships in our lives as well as our relation to ‘self’ that need attending to. Counselling is hugely relational: it offers a psychological space where thoughts, feelings, anxieties and difficulties can be explored safely.
I am a compassionate, supportive practitioner: knowing that the relationship is the best indicator of successful therapy. I will work together with you to explore difficulties and challenges as you seem them; and give you the space to talk about what may be troubling you, or simply to get to know yourself better. I may offer my perspective; (because if I see things exactly the way you do-I may not be as much help to you ) but I will not advise you what to do.
I have experience working with clients with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, complex trauma and abuse. I work with issues such as depression and anxiety. I have supported others dealing with a wide range of issues. These include stress, relational difficulties ; bereavement and other losses ; illness, cancer, menopause, infertility and childlessness.. I have worked with refugees and in particular international students. I work with those who have experienced emotional, physical or sexual abuse.
I provide a safe, non-judgmental space where my qualities of warmth, gentleness and empathy help support personal exploration.
I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy .I adhere to the BACP ethical framework for good practice and I attend regular clinical supervision as well as furthering my professional development through attending regular training and workshops to develop and broaden my practice.
Current Practice
I currently work with young adults in Higher Education. Issues covered range from anxiety and depression, self-esteem, loneliness, transitions, trauma, loss and bereavement .
I offer on going weekly therapy (50 minutes) and short-term focused work to deal with a specific problem.
First Appointment
If you contact me;I will arrange a short 10-15 minute consultation to find out what you are looking for and a brief chat to assess if we think we can work together. After this an initial appointment would be arranged- more of an assessment. Subsequent sessions are generally weekly and shorter or longer term according to the issues and time needed.
Counselling isn't always 'easy' but allowing yourself to attend to the difficulties and understand what will help you can be transformative and healing.

Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
