Therapist with children, young people & families

About me

I work with children, young people (5 - 25), parents and families - I don't offer individual adult therapy. I aim to help children and their families understand more about themselves, and find ways through when life feels stuck or painful.

Please contact me for a consultation, and we can talk about what could be helpful. I usually meet with parents first, to find out about the background. I can work with older children and young people on their own, or with family members. Young children usually need someone with them. If your child does not want to attend, I can offer support sessions for parents to help you think about difficult areas.

Younger children may "just" come and play - there is a sand tray, dolls' house, lots of play animals, people and cars, and art and craft equipment. "Just playing" can access deep feelings and knowledge that are not available to the child's conscious mind, and therapy can help a child make profound changes without talking much. Older children choose whether to talk or play or both. I always follow what the client wants or needs.

I have worked with neurodivergent children and young people, and with LGBTQ+ young people. I am happy to talk about what your child may need, and make any adjustments that we can to help.

I have extensive prior experience working with communities, children and families in schools and community projects. I also learned a lot from my own unique families and my own therapy. I love meeting clients and finding new understandings with them.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
