About me

It’s important to find the right therapist for you and I offer a free 30-minute introductory session online so you can decide whether you would like us to work together.

As an integrative counsellor, I aim to see you as a whole person and to tailor sessions to meet your needs by drawing on techniques and understanding from various therapeutic approaches. Integration has another meaning for me: that of becoming whole - becoming more of who we truly are, and discovering our potential.

“To round itself out, life calls not for perfection but for completeness...” Carl Jung

My counselling practice is underpinned by over 25 years of experience working and training in the field of mental health and community support.

If we work together, I will aim to be fully present with you, to be curious with you, and to be alongside you as you find your way forward. I believe the therapeutic process can help us gain insight into our feelings and experiences, and deepen self-compassion. With greater self-compassion, we can better regulate and cope with difficult emotions, finding a path towards emotional safety and well-being.

It may be helpful for you to explore painful or traumatic memories, thoughts, or experiences that continue to affect your life. I believe it's important that this is done at your own pace. Together, we can attend to how you're feeling as we go, and I can offer techniques to reduce overwhelm and help you feel more grounded.

I also offer creative approaches, such as using art materials or a selection of small objects and figures, to help explore and represent aspects of your experience if this feels helpful to you.

Your life might be affected by discrimination, inequality, or not being accepted for who you are. I offer a space where these experiences can be explored, aiming to set aside assumptions and truly hear you.

Therapy is a place to address what has gone wrong, but it is also a space for discovery and development. I’m interested in what gives your life meaning -whether that is what you believe in or have faith in, your background or community, who you love and connect with, what inspires you, and what makes you who you are.

Training, qualifications & experience

In March 2024 I completed my Diploma in Humanistic and Integrative Counselling with Bath Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I have also completed a Foundation Certificate in Psychodynamic Counselling and a Certificate in Person Centred Counselling.  I have completed placements in counselling agencies with young adults and with those experiencing bereavement.

In addition to counselling training and practice, I have had a twenty-five year career in mental health and wellbeing services. My specialisms have included employment support, self injury support and social prescribing. I have received training on a wide range of topics and approaches which support my empathy and understanding as a counsellor. These include:

  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Solution Focussed Therapy
  • ASSIST suicide intervention skills training
  • Race Equality and Cultural Capability training
  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
  • Understanding autism
  • Psychologically informed approaches to supporting people who have a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder
  • Creating Psychological Safety for Trans and Gender Diverse Clients

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Key details

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

I usually use the Practice Rooms Queens Square but have access to another space which is accessible to those who use a wheelchair or whose mobility affects use of stairs. Please call to discuss.
