About me
Hi, I'm Sue and I specialise in working with people who have experienced a cancer diagnosis, and also those experiencing loss, grief and bereavement. I'm an Integrative therapist which involves working together and using a tailored approach to help you with where you are at. My aim is to provide a compassionate space for you to feel heard, and to help you feel like a person, in control of your life again.
What's happening for you..
Life after a cancer diagnosis can feel a bit overwhelming. It's sometimes difficult if you feel that you aren't the person you were before and you may be feeling worried about the future and feel anxious. Maybe you are a carer, whether that's a partner, spouse, relative, sibling, friend. After a bereavement, you may feel devastated and it feels like the world is still turning and this feels upsetting. People may have stopped talking about the loss or you may feel there is an expectation that you should be getting on with things.
Working together..
Together we can explore what may be worrying you, think about possible ways forward and how to make life work for you again. We can work at a pace that feels right for you, as thinking about things can feel daunting. It's common to hear people say they don't want to burden loved ones and that sometimes it's easier to be honest and free to explore how you feel in therapy. We can look at different coping strategies and tools which may be helpful for you. We can look at how to talk to loved ones of friends.
I draw on my previous career in nursing where I worked in mainly oncology and palliative care. I worked as a lung cancer nurse specialist where I saw a real need for people to talk and be able to process what was happening at all parts of their cancer journey. After a career break to raise a family, I retrained in counselling and since then I have gained further experience working with the local hospice's bereavement team providing grief counselling and currently I provide feelance counselling with a local cancer charity.
I have experience of working with people who want to ....
- come to terms with what has happened
- process difficult emotions
- estabish a new way of living
- help in talking to others
- plan for difficult times ahead
- to explore your grief
- learn coping skills or strategies
What to expect
I offer a consultation session to start with and this can be over the phone or in person. Sessions are generally weekly or fortnightly to start with and are 50 minutes in length. The amount of sessions people need differs and is unique to your situation. Sometimes people have a break in therapy but keep my details knowing that I'm still here, if I'm needed.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
