About me
Starting therapy takes courage, so well done for getting this far. If you're feeling stressed, stuck, or just not quite yourself, counselling can help. Maybe work is overwhelming you, relationships feel difficult, or you're dealing with anxiety that won't shift. Whatever's brought you here, you don't need to have it all figured out.
I'm Stuart, a BACP registered integrative counsellor working with adults in Hertford and online. I understand how life's pressures can build up and affect your wellbeing. I've had my own experience of burnout, and I've benefited from therapy myself. That firsthand experience showed me just how powerful it is to have someone really listen without judgement and help you make sense of what's going on.
I'm an integrative counsellor, which means I draw from different therapeutic approaches depending on what suits you best. Some people just want to talk things through. Others prefer practical strategies they can use straight away. I've got both in my toolkit.
I use person-centred therapy as my foundation because you're the expert on your own life. I won't tell you what to do or push you in any direction. When it's helpful, I bring in CBT techniques for managing anxiety or changing unhelpful thinking patterns. Psychodynamic work helps us explore connections between current struggles and past experiences. Transactional Analysis concentrates on understanding your communication patterns and ego states.
I work with people of all backgrounds, and find that practical, straightforward support tends to work well. The relationship we build matters most. It's not about me fixing you. It's about supporting you to find your own answers and build the resilience you need.
I keep my fees affordable because I believe good therapy should be accessible. Some people seek short-term support to get through a rough patch. Others benefit from longer-term therapy to work on deeper issues. We'll work at whatever pace suits you.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
Before we start, I offer a free 10-minute introductory call. This gives us both a chance to talk about what's brought you to counselling, ask any questions, and see if we're a good fit. There's no pressure or obligation.
If we decide to work together, sessions last for 50 minutes. First, we'll explore what's troubling you, what you're hoping to get from counselling, and how we might work together. Whether you attend in-person in Hertford or meet with me online, sessions are the same length and the same fee. You can choose whichever works best for you.
