About me

Hello! Choosing a counsellor could be a difficult process, and of course, you need to be with someone you feel comfortable with, so that will be the first thing we need to establish. That's why I offer a free initial phone chat. It's important that I can help provide a safe and supported space for you to express what is troubling you.

I know that some of what you bring might be things you have struggled to speak about elsewhere. My approach is based on transpersonal counselling, where we can look at your past and the patterns that may have been established early in life, but also at the current influences in your life and your potential. The sessions will focus on you, but we can look not just at your personal experiences, but how these are shaped by expectations in society and culture, the environment and intangible aspects of life.

We can incorporate your disappointment or emotional pain, as well as exploring your imagination, dreams, possibilities, and worries, to ensure you are seen, heard and held. Ultimately, the aim is to bring a fuller awareness to your issues and help you use your unique and existing resources to find new ways to move forward.

How to know if I am the right kind of therapist for you? The 20-minute call will help firstly see if we have the right kind of personal chemistry, and whilst other issues emerge from discussing the initial problem, as a starting point my support will work with anxiety, depression, loneliness, difficulty with finding and maintaining relationships, and bereavement. I can communicate with Sign Supported English from previous experience working with and for deaf and hard of hearing people.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained to be a counsellor after working for 26 years in corporate environments, where I sometimes felt a lack of compassion, both in the ability to give or receive. My skills, along with my lived experience of being sensitive to the world around me, made me realise I could bring value and purpose to others through counselling.

I qualified with a Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Development - Psychosynthesis Counselling. The training is accredited by BACP and I am qualified to work with adults. As a registered member of the BACP I work within their Ethical Framework, and ensure that you get professional counselling.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
