About me

You may be facing difficulties, uncertain about where you are in life, or simply wanting a space to reflect and understand yourself more deeply. Counselling can offer a quiet and supportive space to explore your experiences, develop greater self-awareness, and begin to find your own way forward.

I offer person-centred counselling in a warm, reflective, and supportive environment where you can slow down, speak openly, and explore what is happening in your life.

My approach is based on the belief that, given the right conditions, people have the capacity to understand themselves more deeply and find their own way forward. Rather than offering advice or directing the process, I work alongside you, providing empathy, acceptance, and genuine understanding while supporting you to explore your experiences at your own pace.

I have particular experience supporting people with bereavement, grief, and loss, including the impact of significant life changes. I also work with the deeper questions that can arise at different stages of life around meaning, identity, purpose, and spirituality.

I work with adults of all ages and welcome trainee counsellors seeking personal therapy as part of their training or professional development.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold an MSc in Counselling from Keele University and am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

Alongside my private practice, I bring more than 20 years' experience working within the voluntary sector and higher education. Prior to qualifying as a counsellor, I worked extensively in advocacy, supporting people with disabilities and later managing services and organisations within the third sector.

I have worked for almost ten years within a hospice setting, supporting individuals experiencing bereavement, grief, loss, and end-of-life concerns.

From 2019 to 2026, I taught on the MSc Counselling and Psychotherapy programme at Keele University, supporting students throughout their professional training and development.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

Choosing a counsellor is an important decision. Before arranging a first counselling session, I offer a free 20–30 minute telephone consultation. This provides an opportunity for us to discuss what has brought you to counselling, explore whether we feel like the right fit to work together, and answer any questions you may have.

I offer both short-term and longer-term counselling, depending on your needs. Sessions are delivered face-to-face from my home in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Whatever has brought you to counselling, I aim to provide a confidential, non-judgemental, and supportive space where you can explore your experiences and find your own way forward.
