About me

Anxiety, low mood, low self esteem or just that feeling that "something isn't right"?  All of these things have one thing in common.  They can all hold us back and make life much more difficult than it has to be.

I can help you with these and get you back on a path to feeling better, happier and more positive .

I know that feeling anxious, unhappy, down or confused is really hard.  This is where I can  help you.

Finding the right counsellor can be difficult so let me help you straight away by telling you a little bit about me and about how I work.

I believe the key to all therapy is being listened to and feeling safe to share what's on your mind.  I'm friendly and open and I will do everything I can to get you to where you want to be.

I'll give you all the  support you need. I will never judge you and I will always give you the space to speak freely about how you feel and from this we can start to work things out .

My promise to you is that we'll always work as a team and together we'll work towards getting you to where you want be.

I'm trained in an integrative approach to counselling. This means I can use different types of therapy such as Person Centred, CBT, Psychodynamic and Solution Focussed Brief Therapy. I'll explain what these are when we have a chat. I will always make the sessions yours to speak about what you want.   Previous clients have found this works really well.

I previously worked for one of Londons' emergency services for 30 years and have a wealth of experience of the anxieties, day-to-day struggles, hardships, and pressures life brings, and I really do know how difficult it can become sometimes.  I have lived through trauma, stress, multiple bereavements and divorce and these life events have given me a huge skill set I can utilise to help you.

I know only too well the effects of anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, , eating disorders, bereavement, and low self-esteem.  I have worked as a counsellor within the NHS so I have also helped clients with a wide spectrum of other problems.

By using the right approach, and by giving my clients space, time and support,  recovery and forward progress are not only possible but likely

You shouldn't be feeling stuck, alone, scared, unhappy or confused.  I can help you and I'm hear to listen so please just get in touch and we can have a free half hour chat and see how we get on.

I have a level 4 Diploma in therapeutic counselling and am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

I stick to their ethical framework and this ensures yours and my safety at all times. I'm also a Mental Health First Aid Instructor and I hold a current enhanced DBS certificate and I'm fully insured to practice.

I have availability at my private practice in Horley and online nationally via Zoom.  I also provide a "Walk and Talk" service where we meet outside and have a 50 minute session while enjoying the benefits of being outdoors.  Please have a look at my website and drop me a line .  I look forward to hearing from you.

Steve.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
