About me

My name is Sophie and I am a fully qualified Person-Centred counsellor.

I recognise that life can be hard sometimes and so, if you are going through a difficult time, then do reach out.

I have a special interest in working with individuals who are sensitive to the moods and needs of others, who may suffer from co-dependency, anxiety and may feel their relationship is one-sided.  In other words, individuals who may be desperate for connection but find vulnerability difficult to overcome.

If this resonates with you, I can offer a safe place where you get to focus on yourself and open up about the loneliness, anxiety or loss of identity you may be feeling.

I work in a non-directive way and this means that during our sessions, it will always be your choice to share as much or as little as you are ready to do and at a pace you feel comfortable with.

I also fully embrace the person-centred approach recognising that you are the expert when it comes to your own situation.

My experience as a counsellor has offered me an opportunity to work with people facing a range of  life’s struggles: from feelings of depression, low self-esteem, bereavement, work-related stress and relationship issues, through to the day to day issues that face the families and friends of those suffering long term mental and/or physical illnesses.

Taking the first step to reach out may be difficult which is why I offer a free initial telephone session of 20 minutes to help you decide whether I am someone that you would like to work with; it also gives us the chance to explore what you need from counselling and how I can help you.  I am patient, calm and friendly. I am also very down to earth and feedback I often receive from clients is that they find me very approachable and easy to talk to.

I also offer couples counselling. Attending sessions together as a couple can be an opportunity to explore what might be happening between the two partners. The sessions are an opportunity to safely explore areas of concern and allow partners to communicate with one another to identify and begin to understand underlying conflicts.

My room is located in Emsworth, 2 minutes from Palmer’s Road car park behind Tesco Express.  I also offer home visits on certain occasions.

If you have any questions or would like to get in touch, please do email me.  I will always respond to you so if you do not receive a response, then please check your junk mail.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
