About me

Hello I am Sophie, a warm and none-judgemental psychotherapist who offers working creatively.

Therapy looks slightly different for all of us but I believe it should be a space where you feel safe and comfortable enough to be completely honest. A space to catch your breath, to make sense of life and how you want to live it.

Arts based psychotherapy is a trauma informed approach which invites mindfulness and new perspectives from some distance, this helps to regulate the nervous system and from here we tend to be able to be curious about different parts of ourselves. Some parts may be hidden away with stories waiting to be told, while others are perhaps overworked or playing out roles only to please others.

Talking can be a huge and really vital part of therapy, but as humans we experience emotion and trauma in a variety of ways that we often don't have the words for. A protective or stressed cognitive mind is not always the most useful place for us to seek solutions and peace from, therefore as well as talking together, it may be that we explore some of the below (not an exhaustive list!):
Visualisations, meditations, stories, object projection, image work, writing, art-making... but I will always be led by you. The relationship between us will remain the most important aspect, I am committed to finding a way of shaping our sessions that works for you.

Alongside Dramatherapy, other therapy models I draw upon include Compassion Focused Therapy, Inner-child work and Internal Family Systems; my practice is rooted in attachment theory. Alongside my private practice I work for the NHS based in acute adult inpatient care, where I am developing an Arts Psychotherapy pathway.

I offer therapy to adults, adolescents and children and have experience with all.

*I have training and experience in offering online therapy and believe accessing support from your own space or home can be transformative.

Training, qualifications & experience

Clinical Experience

I have experience of working with a wide range of clients; delivering therapy in the NHS (CAMHS and Adult Acute), women’s charities and a probation service. I have also worked part of a bereavement charity in multiple roles, and in secondary schools in East London, where I delivered therapy to both adult staff and students (aged 11-18). Most of my experience is one-to-one psychotherapy, however, I have also designed and facilitated dramatherapy group interventions in the charity sector and in the NHS.

Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.
