About me

Hello I’m Sophie, a person-centred counsellor offering counselling for individuals and couples. My aim is to provide a warm, relaxed and confidential space where you can explore whatever is happening in your life, without fear of judgement.

Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, struggling in relationships, experiencing loss, navigating a life transition, or simply longing to understand yourself more deeply, you’re welcome here.

I welcome imperfection, messy feelings, honest conversations and vulnerability. In return, I’ll meet you with warmth, honesty and authenticity because, first and foremost, I’m another human being. My counselling room is a safe, accepting space where you don’t have to pretend you’re okay or have everything figured out.

Life can be challenging, and choosing to come to counselling is a courageous step. I understand the value of having time that is dedicated entirely to you and your needs. I’ll walk alongside you as you make sense of difficult emotions, relationships and life experiences. Alongside talking therapy, I recognise the important connection between the mind and body, and where appropriate, we may gently explore how stress, emotions and life experiences are held within the body. My approach is grounded in mindfulness, compassion and nervous system awareness, always led by your needs, your pace and what feels right for you. I’ll also celebrate your moments of joy, growth and achievement, because they deserve space too. I welcome laughter as well, because therapy doesn’t always have to be heavy. Sometimes those lighter moments can be just as healing.

I see us as equals. I don’t believe I have all the answers, but I do believe that, together, we can create the conditions for you to discover your own. I’ll work collaboratively, compassionately and honestly, always at your pace. I won’t rush you, and I’ll always treat you with respect, care and genuine curiosity.

I believe that when we feel truly seen, heard and accepted, meaningful change becomes possible. My hope is that our therapeutic relationship helps you develop greater self-awareness, self-compassion, confidence and trust in yourself, so you can move forward with greater clarity, resilience and a deeper connection to who you are.

If you’re wondering whether counselling is right for you, or you’d simply like to see if we’re a good fit, you’re very welcome to get in touch. Finding the right counsellor is important, and I’d be honoured to walk alongside you if it feels like the right next step.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
