About me
Do you feel stuck in life, unsure who you are now, or where you are heading next? Do you find yourself replaying conversations and wondering if you said the wrong thing? If life has changed in ways you never expected, it can be hard to know where to begin.
I work with people who are dealing with the emotional impact of illness, disability, anxiety, trauma, and major life changes. Many of the people I see feel overwhelmed, burnt out, or emotionally exhausted by what they have been through.
I know personally how disorienting it can be when life suddenly changes. Over 20 years ago, I survived a catastrophic stroke, and it affected not only me but my whole family. We all had to adapt in different ways, and living through that has given me a deep respect for how life changing events touch every part of life.
In therapy, we take time to understand what has brought you here and what might help you move forward. Together, we look at your strengths, values, and possibilities so you can begin to reconnect with confidence and a stronger sense of self.
I offer warm, practical support with anxiety, stress, low self esteem, lack of confidence, life transitions, chronic illness, and more. My approach is grounded in understanding your experience from your perspective and helping you find your own way through.
Clients often say they feel more confident in themselves and their choices, better able to cope with life’s challenges, and more comfortable letting it all out. They begin to untangle long held patterns and feel clearer about what comes next.
If that resonates with you, I would warmly invite you to get in touch. You can contact me through my website, www.horwoodcounselling.co.uk, or via this page.
I also offer a short free video call so you can get a sense of whether I feel like a good fit for you.

Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with
My own stroke affected my whole family, and I understand that life changing events do not only affect one person. They can reshape relationships, routines, and the way a family moves forward together.
I also support partners, children, and other family members who are affected by someone else’s illness or injury and may need a place to think things through for themselves.
If you are facing something similar, you do not have to go through it on your own. I offer warm, practical support at your own pace, so you can begin to make sense of what has happened and find a way forward that feels right for you.

Further information
I also have family members with autism and ADHD, and I understand some of the challenges this can bring, both for the person living with it and for the family members around them. I work in a warm, caring way with both people who have these diagnoses and the family members supporting them, helping them feel heard, understood, and gently supported at their own pace.
