About me

I am a skilled and empathetic counsellor with a deep personal understanding of Autism and ADHD, gained through both professional experience and my own lived experience as a neurodivergent individual.

I have lived experience of chronic pain and mobility issues. My salaried and private roles mean that I can support individuals to understand coping strategies that are tailored to your life as you live it now.

My approach is integrative, drawing on a range of therapeutic techniques to offer tailored support for each client. I am particularly passionate about working with neurodivergent individuals, helping them navigate the unique challenges they face in areas such as anxiety, depression, identity, and self-esteem. My role is not to change you, it is to help you to advocate for yourself. To build your confidence and have an approach that means you can socialise and communicate in a way that allows people to adapt to you and your needs  not the other way around.

My counselling career has allowed me to work with a variety of client groups across different settings, where I’ve developed a specialist skill set in supporting neurodivergent children, young people, and adults. I have extensive experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum and those with ADHD, providing tailored therapeutic support that meets their specific emotional and developmental needs. My approach combines elements of person-centred therapy with more creative techniques, to help clients express themselves in ways that feel safe and meaningful.

Throughout my professional journey, I have worked in both school settings and with charitable organisations, conducting thorough assessments and delivering counselling through face-to-face, online, and telephone sessions.

My approach to therapy is flexible and responsive, adapting to the unique needs of each client. I work closely with neurodivergent individuals to understand their perspectives and experiences, ensuring that they feel supported and empowered throughout their therapeutic journey. I believe in creating a non-judgmental, inclusive space where clients can safely explore their feelings and work towards greater self-understanding.

My lived experience of being neurodivergent gives me a unique insight into the challenges my clients face, allowing me to offer truly empathetic and informed support.

In addition to my work with neurodivergent clients, I have significant experience supporting individuals through grief and bereavement. I have experience of working with families impacted by suicide, where I provided sensitive grief counselling and help clients process complex emotions.

I have also worked with clients presenting with anxiety, depression and identity concerns. I have also worked with clients impacted by serious illness, offering them emotional support through difficult times, and helped young people struggling with issues such as self-harm, eating disorders, and gender identity. My ability to connect with clients of all ages, from young children to adults, allows me to create a safe, trusting therapeutic space where individuals feel heard and understood.

Further information

As a neurodivergent person, my path into counselling has been shaped by my own experiences and a genuine desire to understand the diverse mental health needs of others. My qualifications represent more than just a career path; they reflect my belief in the power of empathy and connection in therapy.

I started with NVQ qualifications in Customer Service and Business Administration, which really helped me learn how to engage with people in a supportive way. Those skills have been super valuable in my counselling work, where building trust through effective communication is essential. My CACHE certifications in Understanding Autism and Mental Health in Children and Young Adults have also helped me grasp the unique challenges that individuals from various backgrounds face.

Creating a safe and inclusive space for my clients is at the heart of my approach. My Foundation Degree in Counselling and my Therapeutic Counselling BSc Hons have given me a solid mix of theory and practical skills that are crucial for effective therapy. I love using evidence-based techniques like Motivational Interviewing, NLP, and Polyvagal Theory to help clients explore their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while fostering a collaborative relationship.

I’ve also pursued ongoing training in areas like grief and bereavement, suicide prevention, and mental health issues, which has equipped me to handle complex emotional landscapes. Every client is unique, and I strive to tailor my approach to meet their individual needs, using different therapeutic methods as needed.

My understanding of learning disabilities has grown through my NCFE Cache Level 2 qualification in Principles of Working with Those Who Have Learning Disabilities. This background allows me to advocate effectively for my clients, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met during therapy.

Beyond academics, my experience in leadership and anti-bullying initiatives shapes my practice. Training with the Anti-Bullying Alliance and completing the Dare Domestic Violence Training has improved my ability to handle sensitive topics and provide informed support to clients dealing with trauma or distress.

I’m committed to lifelong learning and staying up-to-date in my field. My Advanced CBT Diploma and NLP Practitioner certification reflect my dedication to integrating new techniques into my practice.

Ultimately, my neurodivergent perspective enriches my work as a therapist. It helps me connect authentically with clients, creating a space where they can openly explore their challenges without fear of judgment. I’m passionate about empowering individuals to navigate their unique journeys and strive to instill hope and resilience in everyone I work with.

Through my qualifications and experiences, I aim to create meaningful, therapeutic relationships that promote healing, growth, and self-discovery. I look forward to continuing this journey and making a positive impact in the lives of those I serve.
