About me

Hello, I am Shannon. I am a fully qualified, registered, and experienced psychotherapist (BA Hons, PG Cert, PG Dip, BACP). I work with individuals and couples. All genders, identities and backgrounds and religions are welcome.

How do I work?

I offer both online and in person sessions. I really care about creating a safe, trusting environment for you to be able to have your voice heard, uncover your own inner strength, and explore however you are feeling. We can work together to improve your overall self-confidence, challenge self-limiting beliefs, make positive changes in your life, and develop a healthy relationship with yourself and others, and more.

Working in an integrative way means I can draw from different approaches to ensure I work in a way that suits you personally. I recognise that what works for one person, might not work for another. I have a flexible way of working, you don't have to stick to just one area you would like support with.

Availability & information:

You can choose whether online or in person would work best for you, or a blend of both if needed. You can also determine the frequency of sessions, such as weekly, fortnightly, or monthly. If you are someone that has a changing schedule, I would be happy to offer flexible appointments, you don’t have to commit to the same day and time.

I work Monday-Friday including mornings and evenings. Please note - Wednesdays and Thursdays are online appointments only.

What experience do I have?

I have years of experience, including working with a range of different concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, abuse, relationship issues, low self-esteem, identity, sexuality, sex related concerns, relationship with food / body image, stress management, and family issues.

I provide a confidential, non-judgmental and safe space to allow you feel safe enough to explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace, and to feel heard and listened to. I welcome and create a safe place for LGBTQIA+ people.

Couples:

I recognise there can be an assumption that couples only access therapy when they are in crisis, or their relationship is coming to an end, but that isn’t always the case. I believe couples counselling can be a helpful space for you to work through any issues or worries that you are finding hard to resolve together. It can be a great place to help you both reconnect, communicate, and understand yourselves and each other at a deeper level, alongside learning new techniques to try outside of sessions. Relationship issues I can help with include communication difficulties, problem solving, lack of intimacy, different sex drives, feeling disconnected, financial worries, work stress, infidelity, lack of trust and more.

What are the next steps?

- Email / text me to arrange your first appointment, or if you wish, a no commitment 15-minute phone consultation where you can ask me any questions you may have.

- In the first appointment, we will discuss what you would like support with and start from there.

How to get in touch:

Please email: slouisecounselling@outlook.com

If you call and I am not able to answer, please leave me a voicemail or text message so that I can get back to you as soon as possible.

Some feedback I have received from sessions:

• “'Therapy gave me the chance to freely talk about things that I've never been able to discuss before. Being able to simply say things out loud to someone in a safe space was incredibly insightful and I would recommend Shannon to anyone!”

• “After therapy I am more able to communicate how I feel, and set boundaries with people, which has been really helpful.”

• “Therapy allowed me to look at where I was in my current life, this gave me the drive and confidence I needed to start taking more productive steps, such as applying for new job roles.”

• “Shannon really listened to me, I felt heard, and like my feelings were validated.”

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
