About me

Welcome.

I am a qualified and experienced Art Psychotherapist working with children, young people and adults. I am based in Weston Super Mare and take referrals from individuals and families who are self-funding as well as referrals for work funded through Local Authorities, the Adoption Support Fund, Charities and Schools. Clients travel from North Somerset and Bristol.

I aim to provide a safe and consistent space, to meet you as you are and hear how things are for you right now. Clients say they really value having choices in how they explore and communicate what is on their mind. Together we will discover what you need most and the best way to bring that about. For some people, this will mean making use of art materials and processes. Others are able to share what they need by talking things through. Most people use a bit of both.

The information here is a snapshot. I hope you get a sense of who I am and what Therapy with me might be like.

Going into Therapy is a big commitment: emotionally, timewise and financially. So it is important to find the right person and approach for you.

If you think I might be the right Therapist for you the next step is to get in touch. I offer a free 20-minute consultation online.

After the free 20-minute consultation the next step would be to meet in person to make sure we are a good fit, you are comfortable with the space and time and that we share a good understanding of how we will work together. There is no obligation to continue if it doesn't feel right.

Sessions include 60 minutes of in-person contact time.

Training, qualifications & experience

About me

My main training is in Art Psychotherapy, having completed the MA Art Psychotherapy in 2016.

More about Art Therapy/Psychotherapy can be found here - www.baat.org

Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) is a really important model for understanding what trauma is and how it impacts the lives of children, young people and adults. I draw on it to offer adults information and strategies for understanding themselves, their young people and how they are relating to one another.

Polyvagal Theory is a useful model to help clients, parents, carers and schools understand how our nervous systems influence the way we think, feel and behave and, as with Art Therapy and DDP, promotes understanding of the dynamic (two-way) nature of relationships.

Experience

I have significant NHS experience in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and Adult Mental Health Services.

I spent 3 years working in the care sector with adults with complex needs including learning disability, sensory impairment and mental health difficulties.

My voluntary experience includes art workshops with adults with brain injury, and running clay workshops in schools.
