About me

I' m an experienced individual and couple counsellor and sex therapist with over 15 years experience.  I can help with all types of relationship and sexual issues as well as stress, anxiety, depression and anger. Currently working for Relate, I also offer private sessions to help you move forward with your life.

Relationship counselling for couples and singles

I am passionate about helping couples to discover a deeper level of connection and intimacy. Of course at first it's about addressing the upsets that result from communication difficulties, an affair or loss of interest in sex and beyond this to discover a more harmonious and joyous connection you and your partner deserve.

I have extensive experience of working with couples to build more effective communication skills and the self awareness needed to resolve differences, restore hope in each other and create a more satisfying partnership.

Psychosexual Therapy

Psycho-sexual therapy explores the physical and emotional problems which are causing distress both for individuals and couples. We will sensitively explore together things you may have been ignoring or too embarrassed to deal with and formulate a tailored programme of treatment. Click my website http://www.sarahdohertycounselling.co.uk for more information and about sex addiction recovery.

Individual Counselling

At certain times in life you may be faced with challenges or a crisis where you may need  support to help you cope, or you may just be at a cross roads and want to explore your options and thoughts with an objective, safe and encouraging counsellor. I can help you make sense of what's going on, so that you can get back on track with your life.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
