About me

Hello, I'm Sara Lugard, a fully qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist, and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). With over 10 years of experience, I offer compassionate, confidential, and professional support to individuals and couples.

I work in private practice, providing face-to-face counselling sessions in Hampshire, as well as online and telephone therapy to clients nationwide. I specialise in supporting adults (18+) and couples through challenges in their personal and professional lives.

My Approach

I believe that, at our core, all human beings seek happiness, peace, and balance within themselves and their environment. We all want to feel at ease in our lives, and I know first hand how elusive that can sometimes feel. There are times when these feelings of harmony and well-being seem just out of reach, often causing tension or distress in our relationships with others and ourselves.

Many people can resolve these difficulties on their own or with the support of family and friends. But when these avenues aren’t enough, or when it feels too difficult to navigate on your own, counselling offers a safe space. The therapeutic relationship we build together can provide much-needed clarity, support, and a path forward.

Why Therapy?

The process of therapy is about more than just talking; it's about making sense of the emotions, thoughts, and patterns that shape your experiences. It’s about finding the space to explore, understand, and address those areas where you feel stuck or uncertain. My goal is to create a collaborative and non-judgmental environment where you can explore what’s on your mind and work towards meaningful change.

Whether you're dealing with anxiety, relationship issues, low self-esteem, or navigating a difficult life transition, I’m here to offer support, guidance, and practical tools to help you move forward with confidence.

Finding the Right Counsellor for You

Being truly heard and understood, without judgment, is a powerful experience in itself and it can be the first step toward healing. I know that finding the right counsellor is an important decision, and I want you to feel confident in your choice.

To help with this, I offer a free 30-minute initial consultation. This session gives us the opportunity to meet, talk through your needs, and allow you to experience how I work. It’s a chance for you to gauge whether you feel comfortable and supported in our therapeutic relationship.

Location and Accessibility

My practice is based in Chandlers Ford, Hampshire, with easy access to the M3 and surrounding areas, including Winchester, Eastleigh, Southampton, and Romsey. There is ample free parking available, making it convenient for face-to-face sessions.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
