About me
My name is Sandra Barber and I offer one to one Counselling and Psychotherapy in a private and confidential setting in Purley. Appointments can be flexible on certain days and evenings. I am a qualified Psychotherapist and a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)
I can provide a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space where you can explore difficulties at your own pace.
Seeking therapy can feel daunting but it can enable you to have a deeper understanding of yourself and support you when finding your own solutions and direction in life.
I have 20+ years experience of working with young people, in an educational setting (secondary school and sixth form/college) and of course adults.
I can also support parents who are seeking support for their teenagers and the difficulties that might arise in Adolescence, whether that is school related issues, exam stress, anxiety, friendship issues or transitioning into secondary school and further education.
I also have experience supporting individuals navigating recovery and rebuilding their lives following challenging periods.
My approach is integrative, drawing from person-centred, psychodynamic and trauma-informed perspectives. This means I tailor therapy to your individual needs rather than a 'one-size-fits-all' model.
I offer face to face or online sessions albeit short-term or long term.
Training, qualifications & experience
- I have a BSc Degree in Integrative Counselling, where I have trained in Person centred, Psychodynamic and Existential therapies.
- I have over 20 years experience working with young people in an educational setting.
- I am a Registered Member of the BACP.
- I can also offer counselling online via video call.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
