About me
Hi, I’m Sam, an online CBT and EMDR therapist supporting neurodivergent people across the UK who want to claim their lives back from Anxiety and OCD.
Often people reach out for help when they feel they no longer have control over their anxiety. This may look like constant worrying, intense sensations in the body, or difficulty making decisions through fear of things going wrong. Many people feel shame about their experiences and are held back from living a full life.
Some people report experiencing trauma and others can’t pinpoint the cause of their anxiety. Whatever your story, we can work together to help you get to a place where you feel unburdened by anxiety and able to live a more fulfilling life.
All sessions are tailored and bespoke to you, to help you work towards long-lasting relief from distress and empowerment to make any changes you wish to make.
Neuro-affirming Therapy
I offer neuro-affirming, trauma-informed therapy for autistic and ADHD adults who are ready to move beyond survival mode and begin to feel safer, more confident, and more connected to who they truly are.
If you’re neurodivergent, or think you might be, you probably know what it’s like to feel different, constantly second-guess yourself, and feel overwhelmed by emotions and sensations in your body. Many of the neurodivergent people I work with experience anxiety, emotional numbness, masking, and shame.
These experiences have a profound impact on your identity; with many people telling me that they have felt this way for so long that they're not sure who they are, or what they want from life.
It's important to know that therapy isn’t about changing who you are or ignoring the systems in place that contribute to how you feel. Navigating the modern world as a neurodivergent person can be extremely complex - therapy is place where you can take the time to understand yourself, experience your emotions, and find new ways of living that give you the best chance of getting back into the driving seat of your life.
My Lived Experience
When I discovered that I was neurodivergent later in life, suddenly everything made sense. Before, I didn't know why I found everyday life difficult. I had no language for what I was going through, so therefore, I didn't understand my inner world. My diagnosis of ADHD was a turning-point. I could finally put the words to what I had been experiencing my whole life. Over time, I stopped feeling so shameful for being different and found new ways of living that actually worked for my brain. My lived experience as a late-diagnosed neurodivergent therapist deeply informs my work. While I’ll never claim to know exactly what your experience is, I do understand how complex navigating your neurodivergence can feel.
How it works
The therapies I offer are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprogramming (EMDR). CBT can help you understand yourself and your difficulties in a practical way; giving you understanding, clarity, and tools. EMDR can help you to get to the root of your difficulties and helps to reduce the intensity of any distressing memories that are maintaining how you feel. When CBT and EMDR are used together, they make for a powerful combination that can give you long-lasting relief from your distress and empowerment to make any changes you wish to make.
