About me

I am a counsellor, drawing on a range of psychological theories to guide me in my work and help clients understand and explore their thoughts and feelings safely.

I work alongside clients who are suffering from a variety of concerns, including pain, low self-esteem, stress, feeling uncertain, anxious, lonely or depressed, as well as those battling with change or unhealthy patterns of relating.

As well as working as a counsellor, I write about mental health for practitioners in the form of blogs, articles and other related content.

I believe we can all benefit from counselling support in some way – it doesn’t have to be a resource we access only when we have reached a critical point. Talking therapy is the chance to share with a professional you trust, entering a relationship that offers support and understanding, creating the chance for you to build self-awareness and providing opportunities for growth and healing.

I offer an initial telephone consultation to allow us to decide if we would like to work together. Sessions are face to face, I work from a clinic in Newbury.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

Where appropriate, I work creatively with clients. Expressing ourselves can come in many forms. For those who struggle with the more conventional ways of opening up, I will explore poetry, art, metaphor and more as ways to calm the nervous system or to delve deeper into that understanding of experience.

Many clients find that incorporating creativity into sessions and cultivating imagination, gives access to new ways of exploring feelings. Creativity can empower clients by helping them to understand themselves more, culminating in better overall emotional health. Creativity also helps to develop confidence, enabling us to find joy in our ability to communicate in a way that resonates personally.

However, I know that working creatively does not work for all clients. No matter how our work unfolds, I offer a safe relationship to explore challenges at a pace set by the client.
