About me

Ruth at Restoring Lives Counselling
Dedicated to restoring lives, hope, and emotional well-being.

Finding the right counsellor can feel daunting, especially if it's your first time. You might be asking yourself where to start or how to find someone who truly understands your journey.

As therapy isn't one-size-fits-all, finding the right fit is essential. You bring your own unique history, beliefs, and strengths, which is why finding a good fit matters. At Restoring Lives Counselling, I offer a confidential, and non-judgmental space where you feel genuinely heard and validated.

My practice is built on a simple belief: counselling is about restoring lives. I aim to encourage you in a safe space and empower you to rediscover your strengths. Together, we will enable you with practical tools to break unhelpful patterns. This helps you move from feeling overwhelmed to reclaiming your balance, confidence, and peace of mind. Whether you are navigating a major life shift, processing past pain, or seeking self-understanding, you don't have to walk that path alone.

Restoring Balance Through Integrative Therapy
I work with young people and adults (ages 16+) using an integrative, person-centred foundation. While I draw on approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Transactional Analysis (TA), you are always at the heart of our sessions.

Together, we work gently at your pace, focusing on:

  • Restoring self-worth by overcoming self-criticism, low self-esteem, and imposter syndrome.
  • Restoring connection through healthier boundary-setting and improved communication in relationships.
  • Restoring vitality when dealing with anxiety, depression, persistent low mood, or burnout.
  • Restoring direction during periods of grief, loss, trauma, or major life transitions.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
