About me
Difficulties in the family? Feel lonely or frustrated in your relationships? Perhaps your confidence is low, or you feel lost after an upsetting life change such as bereavement, health concerns, break-ups or retirement. Maybe past traumas are keeping you stuck, and you don’t know how to move forward.
Counselling can help you make sense of what is happening to you, support you to reclaim your confidence and improve your relationships. It can give you space to explore your needs, make positive changes and rediscover joy after loss or disappointment.
Starting counselling can feel daunting and feel like a big investment in your time and money, so finding the right therapist for you is vital. If you are feeling unsure, you are welcome email me for more information or to arrange free no obligation call, or you can visit my website at www.rosiefreeman.co.uk
Training, qualifications & experience
Before training as a counsellor, I spent two decades working with the body as a shiatsu practitioner and teacher, seeking to support and understand the whole person, body, mind and environment, as well as considering the impact of stress on the nervous system and on physical and emotional well-being. I am interested in mindfulness mediation and exercises to help regulate the nervous system, and these practices can inform my work as a counsellor.
Through previous roles I have supported those with long term chronic health problems including HIV and ME/CFS, disability, as well as mental health and emotional difficulties relating to life experiences such as childhood trauma and post-natal depression
I have a MSc in Person-Centred counselling and Psychotherapy, and two decades working in therapeutic bodywork (Shiatsu). I have had additional training in:
- Rewind Technique for trauma therapy
- Working with Clients Experiencing Trauma
- Level 4 Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People
- Video and Telephone Counselling
In my work as a shiatsu practitioner I have also completed training in somatic approached including Transformational Dialogue, Clean Language and Focussing techniques.
I have experiencing in supporting individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds and life experiences, in particular those experiencing chronic health conditions such as HIV/ Aids and ME/CFS. I have also worked with women experiencing peri and post natal distress, care leavers and those experiencing difficult life events such as homelessness, bereavement and relationship difficulties.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
