About me

I have a genuine interest in helping people lead happier, more fulfilled lives. My passion for working with people to overcome difficulties and trauma, led me to study Psychology,  Psychotherapy, and Trauma Therapies so that I can support you the best way possible.

Specialism

Trauma

Being in a situation where we fear for our lives, or witnessing someone else being in that situation can lead to a traumatic response in our bodies which can lead to disrupted sleep, nightmares, intrusive thoughts about the situation, and feeling helpless and powerless when faced with overwhelming emotions or feeling cut off from their emotions altogether.

I enjoy helping clients understand their behaviour with more compassion, become more resilient and resourced in the face of current adversities, as well as learning to regulate their emotions. Learning to become proactive instead of reactive to their traumas, clients feel that there is finally light at the end of the tunnel, that they can be in charge of their emotions rather than feeling out of control. I specialised in trauma after having worked therapeutically with children affected by adversity such as abuse and neglect as well as highly stressful incidents that shaped their understanding of themselves and the world and helped them develop healthier strategies to cope. Often the strategies we learn to survive are the ones that keep us trapped, unhappy and unfulfilled. The study of ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) documented the long-term impact of early childhood experiences on mental and physical health leading to early deaths.

Trauma can also strike when we are adults. The sudden loss of a loved one to violent deaths such as suicide or terrorism, or long illness can be traumatic.

Through targeted trauma-informed therapy, I can support you in establishing safety within, learn to regulate, become more resourced and resilient. After that, we can work together to process the traumatic memories and integrate these experiences and their meanings in a new way.

Neurodivergence

I specialise in Neurodivergence, particularly Autism, ADHD / ADD, Dyslexia and Dyspraxia and have been supporting clients lead more fulfilling lives by learning helpful ways to manage their difficulties, co-regulate and communicate in a way that supports them better. Growing up neurodiverse in a world that is geared for neurotypicals, presents its own set of challenges and harms us in terms of mental health (depression and anxiety), self-esteem, loneliness and many more. As Neurodiverse adults, we often experience work-related stress leading to mental health issues when employers are not supportive or unaware. I am thrilled to work with clients uncover their innate talents whilst also supporting them through the challenge that is the neurotypical school or workplace. I also incorporate the latest findings in neurobiology to help you thrive.

Couples

I am also passionate about my work with couples, many who have experienced trauma, or where one or both partners are neurodiverse. I use the theories from the Developmental Model, Neurobiology, Transactional Analysis, Trauma Therapy and Imago therapy to help couples understand what is keeping them stuck and steer them towards positive growth.

Parents of neurodivergent children often face a unique set of challenges that often contribute to tensions in the relationship. I feel passionate about supporting people to lead better lives, become more compassionate towards themselves whilst learning to understand their unique challenges and their difficulties whilst growing and thriving.

What you can expect from me

Integrity, honesty, and respect are really important in my counselling work.  I provide a confidential and ethical counselling service. I see therapy as a joint venture – where we both take equal responsibility for our part in getting to where you want to go. Together we decide on a way forward. We can work towards a positive change together. The therapy process may be challenging and difficult at times, it may be exhilarating and uplifting, too. I can be there, so you will not be in it alone. I can teach you some simple psychotherapy concepts and neuroscience to help you gain a better understanding of yourself. With increased self-awareness, you can stop patterns that no longer serve you and replace them with healthier ones for a more fulfilled life.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
