About Me

My original training was in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, over the years I have completed further professional development training in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT); Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) and a specialism of working with Trauma.

I have over 15 years’ experience of working as a Psychotherapist and Counsellor in the voluntary, educational, corporate and private sectors.   I have experience of working with clients both long and short term and I am an associate Counsellor for many Employment Assistance Providers (EAP) which involves working with employees struggling with work related issues.

I am a Director of a thriving private practice in Leicester City called Rutland House Counselling and Psychotherapy Ltd and I am experienced in managing a large team of therapists and making clinical recommendations.

I offer an initial consultation, which is also an opportunity to assess whether my style of working is for you. My aim is to help individuals and couples address the causes of their problems, reduce symptoms and move forward in life. I can work with most issues including relationship difficulties, low self-esteem and confidence, unresolved childhood issues, abuse, body image issues, anger management, depression, anxiety, stress and work-place difficulties.

I can genuinely say I really love the job I do and feel very passionate about my profession, and most importantly I know therapy is an effective method for positive change. I am a qualified clinical Supervisor which enables me to supervise the clinical practice of both trainees and experienced counsellors/Psychotherapists.

I enjoy making a positive contribution to my profession and I am appointed as vice chair of the  British Association for Counselling and psychotherapy (BACP) private practice division.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Supervision

How I work in supervision I recognise the importance of a consistent and supportive supervisory relationship and its potential to contribute to effective, safe practice, successful outcomes and professional development.   I believe that the work we do requires a demanding, continuous investment of ourselves and that too deserves to be explored, understood and reflected upon.
