About me
It is no small task trying to live and survive in today’s world, let alone being able to make sense of it. There are no maps for these times, our systems are beginning to unravel and we stand facing an unknowable future. How can we therefore navigate a path through our lives that helps us to meet this world and the challenges it presents.
I'm Richard, a BACP accredited psychotherapist working with adults in Wiltshire. I help people navigating grief, burnout, midlife and major change, to find a way through. My practice is based indoors, outdoors, online or a mixture. I work creatively and in an embodied way, exploring through poetry, creativity and voice
My areas of specialism are Grief and Loss, Life Transitions, Chronic Illness, Spiritual Emergence, Midlife and Endings & Beginnings. Along with the relevant skills and training, I believe I bring lived experience to each of these areas.
I have worked within the creative and psychological industries for over 30 years, formally as an actor and musician and for the past 25 years as a coach and consultant, supporting systems and their leaders through messy and complex change. I’m a writer and poet with 2 published books by Wiley and Karnac and contributions to a Poetry Anthology.
I weave together evidence-based psychotherapy with ancient, earth-honouring traditions. My sessions often take place outdoors in forests, near rivers, or on open land where the elements themselves become co-facilitators in the healing process. I am fascinated by working in creative and embodied ways and draw heavily on my music, theatre and performance background. I will often lean on poetry and writing as a way of exploration.
I offer hybrid format therapy, where sometimes we meet outdoors and sometimes online. This works well for those who live further afield and can only make occasional outdoor sessions. We are all needing to adjust to modern life and the complexities that it brings us. I work outside therapeutically in all seasons, except for the bleakest days where we’d be wading around in a muddy bog! At this point, we move inside or online. Despite my hybrid offering, there is really no substitute for being in the embodied presence of another as you undertake this work on yourself.
If you are interested in our working together, please do get in touch and we can discuss your needs and the options available. Even the initial move of making contact is a significant one in the adventure of your life. I don’t underestimate how big a first step this can be.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Richard

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
