About me

My name is Rhiannon and I am a trauma-informed Integrative Person Centred Counsellor. I am here to support you with any feelings, experiences or issues that you wish to bring to counselling. As a humanistic counsellor, I will not judge or explicitly tell you what to do, but will gently support you to identify what is important to you and the steps you need and want to take, to live a life that makes sense for you.

I work with individual adults and young people, over the age of 18 and can offer face-to-face, online and walk and talk counselling, in and around Stroud. My counselling room is based in central Stroud.

How I Work

My approach is respectful, compassionate and valuing of people's unique identities, personal experiences, needs, feelings and how they communicate this. I work in an embodied way which considers the role of the nervous system and gut-brain relationship, with mental health.

I can offer simple tools to help you identify how you are feeling (mind and body) and how to process and manage low mood, anxiety, procrastination, difficulties around executive function, overwhelm and burnout.

For me, being integrative means that I can also offer you opportunities for therapeutic drawing, mark-making and collage, use of picture cards and guided visualisation and relaxation. These tools can be calming and useful if you find it difficult to identify how you are feeling about an issue or want to approach it differently, struggle to articulate your feelings, experience communication difficulties or just want to nourish your creativity. I never assume that all clients will want to work in this way and therefore offer this lightly as an option, once we have gotten to know each other.

Integrating walking and talking into counselling can feel less formal and more accessible especially if you feel emotionally stuck or prefer to not to make eye contact very much. Walking can naturally reduce stress levels by increasing endorphins in your body and connecting you to your circadian rhythm, for better sleep. The rhythmic motion of walking can also support clearer thinking and enhance your cognitive function. Although, we call it ‘walking and talking therapy’, it is not exclusively open to those who can walk great distances or at all. If you have mobility difficulties, I can work with you to identify accessible and safe routes to travel along.

I can help with the following areas:

  • Feeling stuck
  • Fears and anxiety
  • Low mood and depression
  • Low self-esteem
  • Relationship issues
  • Addiction
  • Trauma
  • Loss and bereavement
  • Questions around identity
  • Sensory difficulties and burnout

Training, qualifications & experience

Training and Experience

I am a fully qualified member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I am trained to diploma level, on an Integrative and core Person-Centred course. I also have a full and up to date DBS certificate.

I regularly undertake clinical supervision and additional training, to improve my skills, knowledge, awareness and understanding, as a counsellor. I have completed additional training around complex emotional needs, working with shame and trauma and am familiar with The Autism Dialogue Approach. Alongside my private work, I am also a Counsellor and Team Leader for Listening Post counselling agency, in Stroud.

Before qualifying as a counsellor, I worked for many years in specialist further education and as a Community-Based-Artist and Arts Producer. I was and continue to be interested in creative expression for psychological wellbeing, by providing creative and non-judgemental spaces for others to communicate their experiences and develop a deeper understanding of themselves.

I am particularly interested in neurodiversity and align myself with the social and ecological model of understanding neurodiversity, which is not about solely focusing on struggles or deficits, but about deeply valuing natural human variation and carefully considering the impact of social, emotional and environmental factors.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
